Does anyone besides me think it's nutty to have two "world championships" happening at the same time? I talked to some buddies who don't know anything about the politics of the sport, and they all said, "It makes the sport look stupid."

I agree! And why is it that our FIRS team never loses, but our IIHF never wins (the championship that is)? Obviously that talent on one team is better, but why don't we spread the talent out?

Why is anyone surprised? How many "cards" does a player have to own to play in all the tournaments that exist? If the numerous leagues didn't sell "weekend warrior" passes to outsiders to play then you'd see the same 3 teams over and over again within that league. They won't ever merge so don't even expect that. Ice hockey does it too. How many Junior leagues exist in Canada? Almost too many and they did it for the same reason roller has...someone doesn't like what one league does so they start their own. Each player has to decide what they want to do and choose which league they like best.

I agree that it is silly but... to put a positive spin on it - Is it better that more tournaments happen which in turn promote the sport and that more kids/players get to wear their respective countries players?
Who cares what association the Tournament falls under?? Let's just all play hockeyand have a good time...

I agree. Disneyworld (Fl) also holds an international event. It is nice to see the different venues where the countries can be represented.
