After reading all the posts recently about the various leagues that currently exist, I thought now would be an important time to announce that the Buffalo Wings organization has been working on starting a new professional roller hockey league which will begin play in the Summer of 2003. The league will be called Inline Hockey America (IHA). A full announcement will be made early next week providing more details on the league. Basically, in order to keep costs down, as the other leagues do, the players will not be paid, initially. However, we anticipate having a prize pool of up to $50K which will be shared by the top teams after playoffs.
As far as teams, again to keep costs down, we are targeting 8 teams in the Great Lakes/Midwest area. However, we have already received interest in teams from the New York/Phil. area, the Virginia area, the Florida area and the St. Louis area. Divisions may be started in those areas if enough teams meet the criteria for entrance into the league.
Look for the full announcement next week and the IHA web site will be up soon.
