Looking for some thoughts on D1 nationals in Wisconsin. Never would have expected that final. After round robin, I was convinced we'd see a Lindenwood-ASU rematch. Anyone agree? Both teams seemed like the cream of the crop...but Long Beach and Cal Poly both pulled off incredible upsets.

What a game by Ryan Burrows scoring all 5 goals in the win over Lindenwood. That's the kind of game it takes to beat LU. For Cal Poly...their team defense was really impressive. ASU had puck possession all game but they withstood the attack, great goaltending too.

Don't look now but D1 has 3 different national champions in the past 3 years...

I didn't watch too many of the D1 games, but Lindenwood did play a couple of games after us so I did watch a couple. Central Michigan was playing them extremely well early on (up 2-0 and 3-2), but Central who plays with 6 skaters and against a full bench of Lindenwood ended up falling due to getting tired.

I saw the Long Beach-Lindenwood game as well. That had to be one of the most intense games I've ever seen. I didn't stay for any of Sunday's games, and I know a couple of those games went into OT, but the atomsphere was electric for the game. And that 5 goal performance - just unreal. Overall i thought LU was an all around great team, but from some of the games I seen they are definitely (and were) beatable.

I also enjoyed watching UCONN and ASU play respectively. That's all I can say for D1, I was more inclined for D2 action.

Congratulations to both Long Beach State and Cal Poly on making the finals and especially to the 49ers for knocking off Lindenwood and then going on to win the D1 Championship. The competition and talent in the West this season was second to none. Long Beach, SLO, ASU, UCSB and even UNLV were all very high level teams that pushed one another all season long.

if only SDSU would let them have there team again to continue to add to the WCRHL.
