I play in the PIHA gateway division and we we're suppose to have our playoff event next week in Chicago. anyways, we received a message from PIHA at 3am MONDAY stating that because PIHA was unable to book the rink for the appropriate day (which sounds like BS to me) and the league is moving the playoff event to St. Louis. if this isn't bad enough but there going to schedule the pro games on a weeknight this week (because nobody in this league must have jobs) and the minor games are to be played this weekend? Anyone who has ever organized a team to play in a travel event will tell you that this is impossible. There are a million things wrong with this. Now, all of the time and effort spent, getting time off work and booking hotels, are a waste for the Chicago event and we're going to have to eat the hotel fee because we can't unbook it. We have no arrangements for this weekend people have jobs and we have no hotels and the worst snow storm in the last 60 years just happens to be trucking threw the Midwest. I don't see why this couldn't have been pushed back instead of rushed at the last minute. of course they pull this after all league fees have been paid.... convenient. stay away from this league.

sounds... 'professional' ;)

(that seems like ridiculously little time to give notice when teams are travelling significant distances for games)

WOW - There must be a reason, did they give you a reason at all ?

See you in the AIHL next year :)

They said the Chicago rink backed out at the last second. However, I've heard rumors that the reason the Chicago rink backed out was due to the PIHA dragging their feet with their schedule. Regardless the main problem here is the short notice. Many players on the team work weekends and can't get there schedule switched with a 5 day notice. I believe the PIHA took a lazy quick and easy way out of the problem while basically saying "screw you" to 2 of the 5 teams in the division (two teams can't make the playoffs and are being forced to forfeits) . I have a hard time believing that they couldn't find one single rink in the Midwest with time for the appropriate weekend.

You sound disgruntled. Way to take your problems public.

AIHL refuses to come to the Midwest, citing "rink politics" as the reason.

I think it's important for people to know all the facts regarding the way these leagues operate before they sink their money into a season. If two years ago i'd have known the things i know now I wouldn't have bothered with at least two of the three "pro" leauges. Also, the AIHL is in the midwest they have 7 teams there this season.

Would the League be the one to blame ?
Or would it fall more on the rink for backing out ?

Don’t get me wrong it sucks that the rink backed out but I think 1. PIHA should have had a contract to secure the rink time and 2. PIHA should at least attempt to schedule playoffs we can actually go to. Why they would schedule an event for time they have not secured is beyond me.
