Coastal Cup/ECHO Hockey is continuing to increase opportunities for recreational/house league players/teams/programs to participate in their own Roller Hockey Tournaments. Travel Lite is what it is called. Less tournaments, less coast, less time commitment, shorter season but very competitive appropriate to the skill level of the recreational player. Coastal Cup started the tournament series in NC, SC, GA and VA in 2010. Over 40 new teams from 8U-16U evolved. Coastal Cup and now ECHO(same owner) has started a new market in Florida and the interest is overwhelming. It is run the same way as the Traditional Travel Circuit is run: regional qualifiers and then a finals at the end of the season. Programs that have never had the skill or opportunity to play in a "travel" type atmosphere are looking forward to this tournament series.
The long range goal of Travel Lite is to create pockets of competition throughout the country providing opportunities to the players who want a taste of higher but appropriate tournament play. Eventually we want to have a National Travel Lite Tournament that encompasses teams from all over the US. Coastal Cup has found in its inaugural season in the Southeast that it increases the enthusiasm and numbers at the smaller, local rinks. Any rink and team can participate are weclome to join if they fit the main criteria: recreational/house league players.
If you are interested in hearing more about this or would like to participate, please e-mail Bob Boucher at [email protected] or call 919-656-0467. I would like to hear from you.
There is already 3-4 qualifiers and a Finals planned for Florida starting in February, 2011.
