They're smoking teams early on, I know UMSL lost a lot of guys, but can anyone beat them this year? And who else has been impressive in D1 so far (in any region)?

There are a few teams in the ECRHA that will give them a run for the money.

what teams would you say from the east would? From what i see, the East is ridiculously tight from top to bottom

Really? Buffalo lost their entire team except one guy and they're still a top team in the East.
It seems like the East is way more competitive this year but that the level of the top teams has dropped off...

Clearly Missouri State can hang with them this year.

Rowan will run and gun with them.
WCU will bang them up.
Rutgers will skate with them.
Conn looks solid.
We shall see -

NO team is going to be able to play with Lindenwood this year. Missouri State hung with them one game, other than that, Lindenwood hasnt even had a CLOSE game. They have more talent than last year, and the only really significant loss of talent was Gouge, who didnt even play last semester or at nationals.
They beat STLCC - Meramec 10-0. No team has the talent anymore to take them. Buffalo lost Walser, MSU lost Fenkell and Radford, UMSL lost pretty much everyone, and look what happened to ASU at finals. Look to see Lindenwood claim yet another National Championship. The rest of us are just playing for second place.
Honestly, I feel this is rediculous. While I wont go and try to say Lindenwood cheats or anything, because they dont, its a little rediculous that they are one of the only schools, if not THE only, that gives out "Academic scholarships" for roller hockey. Somewhere, someone should find a very constructive way to even out the talent level. Possibly Scholarship money to any player, payable to any school, based on skill/talent?
Whatever it is, it should be done, so we dont have to just watch one team win almost every single year.
Dont think I'm hating on Lindenwood either. They are just playing the system to their advantage, the same way any other school would do, and their accomplishments are amazing. At least SOMEONE is giving out scholarships for Division 1 athletes of our great sport.

bethel university is doing it too...but its their first year. only have like 7 good players.
Lindenwood Lost 2-4
Lindenwood Lost 3-4
Lindenwood Lost 3-6
Lindenwood Lost 4-5
Lindenwood Lost 0-6
at Lindenwood Won 5-3
UMSL's 08-09 Record vs LU, they will beat any team in a best of series, but luckily we don't play a best of series, some teams have a chance but normally consider themselves out before the puck even drops.

ECRHA people always think their teams will hang with LU. Buffalo beating them last year was clearly a fluke. Nobody is going to "run and gun", "bang up", or "skate with" LU. The only way to beat them is to box up and pray that you get all the good bounces and/or someone takes a 5-minute major.
UMSL beat LU twice in two years in two championship games. UMSL was loaded up with talent, had amazing goaltending both games, and also had PJ Tallo to put them (us) over the top
As far as STLCC goes, the 10-0 trouncing that we experienced at the hands of LU isn't an indicator of how good we are. There are a lot of good players on our squad who were basically in awe of playing them. I take all the blame on that one as head coach. They should have been better prepared. Although, the first time you play LU when you're a freshman (we have 5 on our roster, including 2 of our 4 D, it make s a big difference) it can be a bit overwhelming. The only bad part is that we only play them once, although I am probably going to try and get a scrimmage game with them at some point.
We're the second best team in the great plains imo. I was told by a couple LU players and coaches that we were the toughest team they'd played so far. (Although MO State is right there with us)
I'll bet anybody $1000 that LU will win nationals this year. PM me if you're interested in taking me up on the offer.

how was buffalo beating lindenwood a fluke? they absolutely toyed with lindenwood - the game was competitive for only one period. give buffalo credit where credit is due.

I have yet to see Ben give anyone other than schools he is associated with or LU credit, especially eastern teams..

Im pretty sure Buffalo was up 7-1 and Lindenwood scored a late goal. And Buffalo had 6 guys. And they outshot LU. I dont think that you outshoot teams when you box up and "pray."

completely agree with the last few guys, give credit where it's due...buffalo had a sick season and came to play at nationals and slapped lindenwood unlike any team has done before...its unlucky that we didn't get a rematch, but they didn't win that game on lucky bounces or containing them with a box

I don't give anyone else credit? Yes I do.
Buffalo is a great team, one of the very best in college and probably anywhere. They are also good at narch (or so I hear, I don't do the exhibition tournament thing).
Happy?
I don't see games out of the east coast, so for me to say anything about anybody, positive or negative, would be silly of me as my only knowledge of those teams is limited to the numbers that are on the scoresheets and hearsay.
Then again, I did say that nobody would hang with LU, didn't I? That's just a guess.
I didn't see the Buffalo-LU game from last year, I just know who won the championship.

No one will beat LU.
Every year this discussion goes on. LU is probably 250-3 in the last 6 or 7 years. Yeah, they're gonna have an off night once in awhile and someone is gonna hit the lottery too.
Their advantage is terrible for the sport. Their reputation as a school, is poor. I have known alumni from the school that agree that the school is not a good one. Being a private school, they charge a ton of $ for tuition and then can afford to have the best teams in every club sport in the country. They have a reputation for starting clubs in competitive sports, etc and winning the national championship in the club's first year of existence. See: ping pong, rifle shooting, cup stacking, etc.
But it also puts every team at a major competitive disadvantage.
The spirit of competition is spoiled here.
Call me hater if you want. I have sat in the LU section and watched games at nationals. While their fans and parents get jeered, they are also very arrogant. It's not like they are any better than the people jeering them.
The NCRHA will never do anything about this. If they listened to their members, they would. But, for some reason, there's something for them to gain from it being this way.
No one is gonna beat them when it counts. A team within the region may know enough to get them on a fluke... They have gathered the guys they want for their teams from wherever they wanted to take them from.
It would be nice if the member teams would take a stand.
