Should be interesting to see how good Affiliate Coastal Carolina is with their PIHA Goalie and PIHA captain.
I think it is smart on FSU's part to come up north and play teams they are competitive against (VT, ECU, JMU) vs. the really good Florida team
I think it's safe to say ECU (D2) has one of the toughest schedules given they play 3 D1 teams and FSU, none of the other D1 teams play 3 games against D1 teams :)
Other than the 3 games when the D1 teams play one another, and all of the ECU games to see how they hang with D1 teams,
I'm looking forward to the following D2 games: Virginia Tech and FSU...
FSU and JMU
JMU and VT
FSU and ECU
BOLD PREDICTION: ECU's B team beats JMU D2

I am extremely curious why they chose to do this? It doesn't really make sense for the DI teams ?

My bet is ECU requested to play NCSU...I assume they requested o play as many D1 teams as possible. Maybe they should re-evaluate and just move up to D1...maybe they can take FAU's spot. Last year the reason not to go D1 was no coach...they have a coach this year. And, appear to have what looks like would pass for...matching helmets/gloves. Which like the "having a coach" rule NEVER seems to be enforced.

My two guesses are
1 they are considering moving you guys up to D1 and want to see how you would do? Or gauge to see how the D1 teams do against you after your impressive wins over FGCU, and Bethel's scholarship players.
2 they figure you will see most of the same D2 and competitive teams (JMU, VT, CCU) in a month in Colombia or at The Box in February anyway. The only team you might not see again would have been FSU which is why they scheduled you against them. I would guess that you would have a fairly "easy" third tournament schedule, given who is attending SC and who you have left to play.
ECUHockey

Sandman, you would be correct. We did ask to be scheduled with NCSU.
I don't think we will be asked to move up now as it really is too late. Plus, we really do not want to. We would like to be successful in DII before such a move is made.

GMU Should have a good weekend
ECU i think they will suprise some people even with playing 3 D1 schools
FSU looks like they have some new guys along with some guys returning that can play but first games of year
NC State is at home and will probally have agood crowd there to keep them pumped up
Kennasaw should have a good weekend
CCU new team but has alot of guys from up north so might turn some heads at first tournament

Great weekend everyone. Lots of good hockey. Every game played was very entertaining. I thought CCU came out and had one heck of a weekend. (this being their first). They hung with both KSU and NCSU. Our records for the weekend were great with DII going 2-2 and B going 3-0-1.
DII
vs. KSU- Loss 5-4
vs. NCSU Win 8-4
vs. FSU Win 7-3
vs. GMU loss 5-4
"B"
vs. JMU Win 13-4
vs. VT (Aff.) Win 10-2
vs. GMU Win 11-2
vs. JMU (DII) Tie 4-4

surprised that FSU went 1-3. looks to be a down year for them. also GMU struggling with VT is odd. seems they struggle with whoever their weakest oponent is each weekend

Yah we always seem to be close with whoever we play. Which makes all the games fun. When we start to pull away our top line plays a lot less which keeps games interesting (NCSU)/(ECU). I think that Mason can really beat or lose to anyone. As far as rankings for D1 i'd say its..
1. Tampa
2. GMU
3. NCSU
4. UCF
5. KSU
(FAU)
D11
1. ECU
2. Miami
3. Flordia gulf coast
4. Bethal
5 and down don't matter..

Whenever we play weaker teams our coach will pull up B players to play and unless we have a big lead and will sit our top line. hence why some of the weaker games are closer or why some teams are able to come back. just enough to win i guess ha. and i agree with the rankings. regionals is gonna be really interesting. nc state made a statement against mason and kennesaw but then lost to ecu. so really interesting...

NC State's results are kind of like Kennesaw's last year in that you have to pay attention to which goalie starts

Wins
Tampa 7-5 (With colosimo starting)

Kennesaw 9-3 (With Colosimo starting)
Coastal Carolina 4-1(Child starting)
Tie
UCF 5-5 (Child)
losses
ECU 8-4 (Child)

Mason I am assuming that you guys played mostly B players against VT.
My question is this? Why not have your A players build a comfortable lead then put your B guys in to finish out the game. Its going to look wierd to the selection committe at the end of the year when they see your team "struggled" against some of the weaker DII teams

I thought the same thing. But As long as they keep winning and stay in the top 3 in DI then they really don't have to worry about the weaker games being close....

with the way the selection committe usually looks down on the SECRHL every game matters. thats how Miami looks at it when we play weaker teams. if we score 15 goals we score 15 goals. its not because we want to be jerks and embarrass other teams, we just want to make sure we dont give the selection committe any reason to leave us off the nationals list

That is true Beezeral, but you look at it differently for DII IMO. A heck of a lot more teams get DI bids than DII teams do so every goal does matter for DII.

remember there are about twice as many DI teams this year compared to last year. so DI bids wont be given out like candy this year

bottom line, i think that gmu feels comfortable enough winning games that they aren't too worried about giving themselves a bad image. a little risky, but why not let the b team players play a bit so you dont have a fallout like UMSL had this year...no new players!

Flat out not worried about "selection committee". I don't believe in running up the score, didn't do it last year, won't do it this year. Playing Virginia Tech was kind of a rivalry game for us too, as we didn't get to play them or JMU last year despite being in the same state. So why not let the top freshmen get a few more shifts and save playing time for the top players for games you need like KSU & ECU the next day. Then new freshmen like Matt Rodriguez get to score their first goal against D2 teams, which means more to him than a Lensing or Harry Murdoch scoring their 17th in 8 games or something like that.. I understand why teams run up the score, I just don't believe in it. Sometimes it happens (like our WCU game) but it's not intentional and many of our B players played a lot in that game.
ECU is just wishing our top players were a bit more tired so they could have successfully staged that comeback on us :)
3 goals in like 30 seconds in the last minute of that game was kind of crazy.

Even after the first tournament in Snellville I thought NC State was underrated. You never know what you are going to get from them. I dont even consider their wins up sets.. I was just waiting to see what people thought about them ranking them 5th and now all of a sudden 3rd.. they are a tricky team.

Its obvious there is a trend. I didn't watch too many games the opening weekend in GA.. We didn't play well against NC State the first time we played them.. but I refuse to take away from their success.. they out skated us and simply played better. We made mistakes and so did they.. they capitalized on them.

did you guys get in penalty trouble with them? cause half their goals were on the powerplay when we lost to them. they have the skill i guess its just if they decide to show up or not.
