Anyone have any idea when we will start to see some teams in the standings? Seems like the ECRHA is already up.

you probably will not see anything until next week after the pre-season conference call

So after the meeting last night, I am intrigued. Will GMU, KSU, and/or Tampa be moving up this year?

What about ECU they used to be D1, perhaps Miami, make the D1 conference alittle larger

We will only be willing to move up if we know a lot of others will. We don't want to play in a division where we see the same teams multiple times. That's just boring.

I understand ECU hockey... If Tampa, Miami, Kennesaw, & you moved up we would probably consider moving up too, but otherwise why would we only want to play NCSU, FAU, and UCF all year...
Also, last year the event at The Box in Chantilly (essentially our "home" rink was only for D2 teams) So why would we go D1 if we couldn't play at our own rink and have to travel even more. Our budget is already pretty much destroyed as we begged and borrowed to attend Nationals last year. This makes matching gloves and helmets nearly impossible. Considering we didn't make the SECRHL title game, didn't get out of the first round of Nationals, and went 2-2 in the inter-regional against the ECRHA teams I think D2 is probably the appropriate place for us this year. Especially with Florida and MTSU moving down from D1 to D2

Understood Mason. I think the matching equipment is a huge issue. That is one of our problems as well. They need to abolish that rule, and more teams would probably move up to DI.

Have you considered speaking with the other elite teams in your division to perhaps agree on promoting yourselves? Espcially with the fact that your league only boasts three division one teams, it may be worth the time to consider sending an email or two.

Although it is rough that everyone does have to have matching gloves and helmets fundraising and using the mission hockey sponsorship deal is a fantastic way to accomplish this. Everyone has at least one pair of black or old gloves from past teams that you wouldn't mind compiling together in order to supply everyone. Take a count of how many people have matching helmets and base who else needs the agreed upon color from there; also having rookies pay a higher amount helps too.

I happened to be working nationals last year and i saw KSU, Tampa and GMU and all of you guys were talented enough to compete at a DI level for sure. Not to mention I recall Tampa having matching glove and helmet colors across the board, much like Neumann in our division last year. Also considering that most teams that you would have played close with at Nationals (WCU, Brockport, Rowan, Neumann Missouri ST. UCSD, SIUE and Grand Valley) are all/will be moving up this year you'll most should serve as incentive to do the same. If so it will definitely make for an interesting year in both D1 or D2, if not see you at interregionals this year.

Miami will move up to D1 only when we can sustain some stability and organization for more than 2 years before falling apart again.

I hear you Beezeral! I think people forget George Mason University went 2-13-1 two years ago, our first year in the league, and we lost roughly 7 of the 15 players from last year's team for this year. Only 5 players from this years team were on our team 2 years ago. I hope we play you guys in Snellville.

You may have lost a few players, but didn't you say you gained a good amount of talented players as well?

Mason while I respect your decision to stay DII you are playing a tricky word game right now. By your account last year all of your good players were freshman that you recruited from the PIHA league and you have also said that you have recruited more players from PIHA so you would have more than 1 good line, so excuse us if we dont believe that you guys lost a ton of talent from graduating seniors

Yeah I understand it probably looks like we are playing word games, but we did lose a lot of talent from last year.

First, Mike Zyuzin who was a grad student last year (and PIHA player) is probably not returning. In 13 games he had 13 goals with 13 assists. http://secrhl.org/profile.php?player_id=86365

Second, it appears now sophomore Harrison Murdoch is not playing for us this year. In 16 games he had 17 goals and 15 assists. http://secrhl.org/profile.php?player_id=86643

Third, while we are bringing in a bunch of guys as we try to grow our program, we have created a B team in an effort to take anyone at GMU who wants to play roller hockey. I wouldn't necessarily say any of them are going to replace the caliber Murdoch or Zyuzin.

I guess my point is we are going to be good, but we aren't going to be as good as last year's GMU team, Kennesaw team, or Tampa team. Thus I wonder why we were asked to move up instead of Tampa or Kennesaw both of whom made it to the SECRHL championship game last year.

if you were at the conference call all 3 SECRHL teams that attended nationals were asked to move up to DI. While I believe KSU is placed right where they should be in DII I, the argument could be made for tampa to move up, but I understand with their decision to stay in DII

going over the different leagues it seems that only the SECRHL did not bump its DII teams that qualified for Nationals to DI. almost every other conference whose teams were competitive at Nationals moved those teams to DI. looks like DI will be extremely competitive this year and DII will be lagging behind in quality of play compared to DI

its unexplainable why TAMPA did not move up. atleast top 8 at nationals last three years, mission sponsored player, and an undefeated regular season last year...

I Completely agree, I especially with most of the teams in the SECRHL being from florida.
