What team do you guys think will be the next George Mason or FAU that will come out of nowhere and be a very good hockey team?

I've been hearing rumors that Florida Gulf Coast is starting a roller team and judging the history of that schools ice program, their roller team should be very good.

Really guys? Okay...who is the next breakout team that will vastly improve from last season to this upcoming season?

I want to say the original poster means for the South East Conference; hence FAU and GMU as examples and not other teams.

As far as the comment about FAU going winless, Nationals was a success for us. Even being able to compete with the teams we played against was a success, let alone having a glimmer of hope to win each game. Great vacation nonetheless!

Strictly talking SECRHL...

If you are looking at record I think University of Florida is going to have a big turnaround in D2 after their 4-11-1 record last year.. They played mostly a D1 schedule last year and then played Tampa twice, Miami twice, and Kennesaw...

Good SECRHL Teams that could fall could be...
WCU I believe they lose Goalie Colosimo and 2nd and 3rd scorer Whitman and Ballard.
USF I think they lose Top Scorer Steve Regan and David Wiles
FSU I think they lose Top Scorer Josephy, 2nd scorer Kahn, and 5th scorer Silverman

I would expect Tampa, Miami, George Mason, and Kennesaw to all battle for positions 1-4 again.

Miami and Kennesaw shouldn't lose anyone. Tampa could lose their Goalie Guy Antonacci and their top scorer Rowan Porter. GMU loses D Jon McDorman, D Reed Tomson, D Eric Wroble, G Alex Spitzel, F Dan Brooks, and D Kyle Luukonen. However, GMU is bringing in roughly 16 guys so GMU should have a decent B team.

GMU is a very good team?

FAU did not exist before 2 seasons ago. in their innagural season they dominated DII in the SECRHL. in their second year they moved up to DI and won the SECRHL again and were a top 10 team for most of the season. While they have yet to win much at the National Level they have done a great job of putting a solid team on the rink. how many teams go to nationals in their first 2 years of existance.

Now GMU's players may talk way to much smack for their own good but you can not deny that their turn around from 2-14 to 13-3 is pretty great. they went from a laughing stock to qualifying for nationals.

both programs have only been around for 2 years and both will be qualifying for nationals again next year.

and excuse me for not using a team that you like or whatever. I play in the SECRHL and those 2 teams are examples of what I was wondering. You could turn this into a flame thread or you can post if there is a team in your conference that could make a jump like GMU or if there is a new program coming that could do what FAU did.

i think bethel and fgu obviously just starting their seasons with competitive DII teams, but this year i dont think there will be a huge "turnaround" you could say, but many new teams with good talent will be looking to prove themselves with their first years within the league.

USF lost a bunch of key players including steve regan. we have a small ass team this year and we dont expect too many good things. i predict a 5-11 season for us.
