I don't know why I noticed the setup of the ECRHA Playoff Brackets this year, but I disagree with the format.

I always thought that Playoff Brackets are set up with an assumption that the higher seeded team would hold through the playoffs. Of course this is not always the case as upsets can and will happen - which makes for a good time.

However, the ECRHA Playoff Brackets are set up in such a way that, seed wise, in the Semi-Finals the 1st seed and the 2nd seed from the same pool could end up facing each other. I would think it should be the other way around - the 2nd Seed in Pool B should face the 3rd Seed in Pool A for the right to play the 1st Seed in Pool A in the Semi-Finals. Like wise - the 2nd Seed in Pool A should face the 3rd Seed in Pool B for the right to play the 1st Seed in Pool B in the Semi-Finals.

I always liked the way NARCh reseeded after each playoff round. I think TORHS made the change-over to this format last year.

No big deal - just a thought.

Assuming the top seeds hold throughout round robin, and the first elimination game...the SF will be 1v4 and 2v3, if you set it up the other way it sets up the possibility of 1v3 and 2v4 to advance to the final.

Unlike a traditional tournament, where teams playing in the Round Robin and Elimination games have played a max of 3-4 games, we had a 18 game season to determine seeds, earning a higher seed earns you a better spot in the elimination games, etc...

Gotcha!

I knew there had to be a method to the madness.

My question is why was the elimination format from last year not used again for D1 and B. Pool play then reseed all eight teams and then have quarters, semis, and finals

Voted on and passed by the team reps at the preseason meeting. This setup prevents teams from playing 3 games and then seeing the same exact opponent again in a first-round elimination game.

I couldn't figure out why the ! and @ seeds from the same pool would play each other but that makes sense with them being the over 1v4 2v3. Also its better that the round robin games actually mean something more than seeding because then you can just relax and if you lose not a big deal.
