Any opinions on who will make it and what will happen??

Here is who I think will make regionals and the seeds they will have:
1-Tampa
2-GMU
3-UM
4-Kennesaw
5-East Carolina
6-West Carolina
7-USF
8-USC

Pool play is set up with:
1,4,6,8
2,3,5,7

If that is the case, pool 1 will be a boring walk for Tampa. Pool 2 looks very competitive. There is only a few d1 games (only three teams) so I will have plenty of time to watch some d2 games, and I already see a few round robin games worth my time to watch (UM GMU, GMU USF, USF ECU). D1 should be very interesting (not to hijack), but every game is a win or go home situation, and everyone is more than capable than beating each other.

If that's the case then it will be tough for anyone to beat UT because they will be well rested going into the playoff round. Pool B will be a dog fight to get out of with UM and GMU being the favorite. Whichever team ends up the 2 seed would then have to play UT after 3 tough games the day before.

All I know is that UT is praying that's how this plays out.

Gamecocks beat USF in a battle of who cares less.

No, In reality I think Tampa will win. UM and GMU could challenge them. I didn't get a chance to watch GMU this season so I look forward to seeing them at regionals, but from their results so far I can tell they must be pretty good.

I'll go with Tampa over GMU 6-4 in the finals.

Agian, not to hijack but the little 3 team D1 tournament should be awesome.

caudy i agree.. i think the d1 regional games will be extremely exciting to watch. I may make money bets with my teammates on goals!!.. for me, i think id rather play a few hard games so we skate at a good pace and play good hockey.. we get into bad habits when we play other teams cause we drop to their level. not insulting anyone but that is why we stopped playing the house league by our home rink.. got into horrible habits. and playing wtih steve regan is horrible

Kennesaw will be the 3 seed because they are 1st in their conference. If tampa has a successful weekend in st. louis they will be the 1 seed leaving gmu with the 2 and miami with the 4 seed.

Thats incorrect, the email sent out by the league about regionals said that teams would be sorted by total points.

Yea I think they changed it to ranking 1-8 when they dropped it to 8 teams. The only way I could see giving them a high seed being fair is if they did it like the NBA where winning your division only guarantees you a top 4 seed. A second place team in another division with a better record would get the 3rd seed

Yeah not much to dispute there...
tough schedule will eliminate Virginia Tech who will go 1-3 for a 6-10 record overall, leaving them 1 game short.

I haven't seen WCU really play this year but if JMU can somehow beat WCU, that would mean that JMU would finish 7-8 and WCU, USF, and USC would finish 7-9. I don't think the better percentage would do anything for JMU as they would have the same points as the other SECRHL teams due to the same number of wins.

I do think Elon is probably kicking themselves that they bailed out of the North Carolina tournament in Taylors... It wouldn't shock me if they shocked an ECRHA team. Granted Elon is the underdog against Neumann & Shippensburg.

One drawback of that setup is that Kennesaw would have a much easier first day as well. As a matter of fact, Kennesaw could should probably end up with the #3 seed overall if they can keep it close with Tampa and then run up the score on USC (which they beat 13-2 in the regular season) and WCU... That could set up a tough sunday for the loser of the Miami vs GMU game on Saturday and a tough sunday for tampa. Assuming, GMU loses saturday and Kennesaw finishes 3rd and GMU finishes 4th they would then have to play #5 (ECU, WCU, or USF) on Sunday. Then #1 Tampa, while the other semifinal would be a Miami Kennesaw rematch. Then Tampa would have to play both Miami and GMU back to back. It should be an interesting Sunday in D2 but more meaningful games on Saturday in D1. Good luck to all the SECRHL teams this weekend.

ECU

I don't think Kennesaw is better than ECU. Granted I am only going off when I saw Kennesaw in Savannah. Maybe they just had a bad weekend there, because I can't possibly imagine the Kennesaw team I saw in Savannah beating the Miami team I saw in Columbia, but Kennesaw did beat Miami in Snellville.

I will say this though because of the format, ECU might never get a chance to show how much better they are than Kennesaw. Kennesaw might do real well in their weak grouping with South Carolina and WCU and bump up to a 3 seed and avoid playing ECU this year. It should be interesting. It wouldn't surprise me to see ECU upset Miami on Saturday. I'm not dissing Miami, I just think ECU is under rated and not well represented on these boards. Also, I haven't seen WCU play all year.

WCU is a very solid defensive team that focuses on capitalizing on mistakes. Their goalie is pretty good, but sustained a pretty bad injury in Ft. Myers. if he is not 100% they will be lucky to win a game at regionals.

I disagree about ECU. but their record seems deceiving. they have not defetaed anyone that good. and a loss to VT as well as a 1-0 win over USC does not look good. Could they beat us, absolutely, but I really need to actually watch them play because on paper they look like a fraud.

ECU's loss to VT is a bit deceiving as well. I don't want to pick on anyone on this board... but if you look at ECU's goalie in that game he gave up 6 goals on 21 shots. I think it was his first game as a freshmen. He was not the goalie ECU played against us.

I'm looking forward to 24 hours from now... We are not as good of a team as we were in Savannah without Zyuzin, but oh well. At least are better than Columbia when some of us were getting over swine flu. :)

"It was our first game of the season" -
You should follow your own advice, there is "no need to make excuses"

Seriously we played most of the first period short handed against your team and still won that period 1-0 http://secrhl.org/game.php?game_id=83416 You couldn't score a goal with a long 4-2 powerplay.

We beat you 5-0 in the second period before putting in our backup goalie and playing mostly our 3rd line.

Besides beating you 8-4, we played similiar schedules this year:
FAU (D1) you lost 5-2 we beat them 4-2
NCSU (D1) you lost 11-2 we lost 6-5 after having a 5-2 lead
Miami you lost 8-6 we beat them 5-2
Kennesaw you lost 8-4 we beat them 6-2
ECU you lost 11-2 we beat them 6-2
USF you lost 8-3 we beat them 6-2
GSU you won 7-4 we beat them 7-2

Please spare us the "it was our first game" excuse. GMU outperformed FSU against 7 like opponents and beat you head to head in 1 game. That's 8 games out of the 11 we played so far.

Honestly I wish your program all the best in the future, but this year we were better than you and there is little to no evidence that FSU was better than GMU or that you could beat us this year.

Game closers than score suggests, as GMU outshot Neumann.

Good point.. I really don't see anyone beating USC goalie.. Maybe the sheer power for FSU offense.. but i dunno

But USC has a big scary defenseman

I was talking to the scorekeeper of all the games for this upcoming weekend in snellville and he was wondering if i wanted to stay after and just like shoot around with him. i thought it would be sick if we could not just have us two but like a bunch of people from the teams that made it the farthest and were still there maybe just fool around and have like an secrhl pick up game thats really just for fun. i dunno if anyone would want to stay though.

We have a ten hour drive after our last game on Sunday. We are heading home. But it would be fun

It is a good idea, kind of like a mini all-star game, but unless there are a bunch of teams that are just a few hours away from snellville that dont want to go home just yet, imo ur gonna have a hard time getting people to play

ten hour drive:eek: it takes us like 9 hours coming from DC....once we get out of VA and that 65 speed limit turns into 70, it takes us about 10 min to get the rest of the way...

I just want to say it has been one crazy day today at Snellville. Too many things to cover right now, we will see how things pan out tomorrow.

One thing, GO FSU (biggest surprise along with NC State)!!
