Gentlemen:
This season the AIHL has incorporated a new certification program that inludes participation at a 6 hour clinic. I applaud the work of Mr. Gary Miller and the management of the league for their support and encouragement in the development of our officiating staff. Much like the team organizations developing talent within their ranks we have begun the process of referee development. This will be a process we hope to continually improve over the next few seasons. My criticisms of our own officiating mirrors that of many of our players and coaches. We would like to see more consistency and uniformity from rink to rink and region to region regarding rule interpretation and implementation. In the northeast we had 23 prospective officials attend our clinic. The majority of these gentlemen were young with little game experience but came with a fervor to learn amd improve their officiating skills. I consider our program much like an expansion team at this point developing young talent for a prosperous future. What I ask the owners and players at this time is to supply Mr. Miller with persons willing to join our ranks wirthin your region. We especially need qualified indiviuals in the New England area to join our ranks. I wish you all good luck in the openening of your season and look forward to seeing you on the floor at your upcoming games.
