Schedule is out for this weekend in Snellville. Any big games people see? Also, where are FSU and FAU? Could they just not make it this weekend?

Florida Atlantic University could not attend the tournament due to prior commitment to playing in the Disney tournament.

smells like BS to me, im sure there would be lot of players and teams playing at Disney if we didnt have to be at the Opening Weekend event. Everyone else had to take that into account, why not them? i say they take three forfits. haha

ECU vs. Elon should be a pretty good game.

I agree with you krommer its absurd that FAU doesnt have to go to snellville. They should have to forfit all 4 games otherwise other teams are going to do this in the future. Every team knew that opening weekend is the first weekend of oct. the disney tournament is not an excuse

Unfortunately, we have 5 players playing in Disney (4 skaters and goalie). This was planned and paid for long before SECRHL announced a date or place for the first tournament. In any case, I myself would choose to play Disney or any other good competition tournament over any regional college event.
It is not necessarily a MANDATORY event. It is encouraged to attend, but if you cannot make it, it does not matter. Last season the league told us (FAU) NOT to come to the "MANDATORY" event. You also do not see UM and FSU, and I highly doubt those guys are playing in Disney.

Sorry FAU but last march at regionals this event was announced whereas Disney wasn't announced until echo nationals in July; so try to come up with a little better excuse. Doesn't really matter if you come to Snellville now or you come next time, you guys will wind up going there at some point considering the 20 game schedule and their only being 3 events in FL plus Savannah.

It's not exactly an excuse. I would never choose a regional season event over a good competition tournament. From those playing, they polled that they'd rather play is Disney rather than the college event. Very simply we will not attend an event in which our coach, our manager, our goalie, and our entire first line cannot attend. There's plenty of events and we know we need to play in 5 of them. It should be none of your business or concern wether we choose to play in that event, you will play us eventually in another event.

Why is everybody giving FAU a problem? They are the only team to actually say why they are not going. Why would they want to go to Snellville when there is a tournament 3 hours away instead of one that is 10??? They did not go last year either. More tournaments are probably going to be added, so I believe there will be another tournament in Ft. Myers. A lot of players from FAU make the Disney tournament an annual thing. It is a fun event at a destination which only houses roller hockey once a year.
With all due respect, the only competition FAU will see this year will probably be UCF. It would be a waste of time if they went up there and played.

There should be no grey area when the league says "mandatory". That being said, the league has made numerous exceptions for the past two years I have been involved in the league. I think that needs to change in order to gain credibility. Not sure why everyone is coming down so hard on FAU, they aren't the only ones who won’t be here this weekend.
Anyway back to the original question, I am looking forward to our (Kennesaw's) games against Tampa and Elon. Last year's games were very competitive and decided by 1 goal or less. The Tampa vs. Elon and NCSU vs. MTSU games on Sunday should be good as well. Kudos to the league for good scheduling on opening weekend.
P.S. Kennesaw B should compete well in B Division and with many DII teams.

Hey to be clear i am not trying to diss on FAU, i happen to notice they weren't coming and they are the team to beat in D1 so i figured id give em a hard time. i totally understand why they wouldnt want to go to the opening event in Atlanta. However it DOES say that attendance is mandatory. so i think its more of a problem with the league giving exceptions to certain teams that i dont like.

The event is mandatory for all full-time clubs. If your club is unable to attend, please contact Ed Luther at
[email protected]
If your club or team is not listed above or if your club is listed and you cannot attend, please contact a league representative immediately.

I mean lets be real.. Steve your right driving 10 hours to play in the Snellville tournament would be a waste of time for FAU.. completely agreed. But going 3 hrs to orlando to play in the disney tournament and having my boy johnny mac, mike thiefault and blake johnson on the same line.. that isn't a waste of time?

Lets be real. Sandbagging in Division II with a top conference team. That isn't a waste of time? ;)
The whole line will be even out, because I am in net
Maybe that line will be more common than you think. Maybe you will see that line in January while you are playing with Tampa? Maybe not?
The only reason why it would be a waste for us to go to Disney is because Streethawks will not have Jeffery Kotcher. Kid is incredibly amazingly super dangles and carries that team on his back!

In my defense, Matt has a harder shot than you and also he is so short that the puck has a tricky trajectory. That was definirly the highest level and most competitive shinny I've played. Good times.

Hahaha... So MissionHockey, pick one.
A. Drive to Orlando and mercy teams
B. Drive to Atlanta and mercy teams
I choose A.
And that Jeff Kotcher is sick nasty, literally. I think he has swine flu.
