I recall that back when the RHA was established, the Narch and State Wars owners stated that they had nothing to hide, financially or otherwise. Any concerns that people may have that this is just another money grab could probably be satisfied by a full financial disclosure. It need not be complicated, just $30.00 x # of registrants, less expenses incurred (i.e., cost of insurance policy, website set up costs, etc.). Has this ever been done? Don't get me wrong-in my opinion, Narch and State Wars are the best hockey tournaments out there (ice or roller). But if these tournament series are making a profit off of RHA, that would not sit well, and would not be consistent with the organization's mission statement.

I would like to clarify my last post. Is it possible for us to be positive in all posts, choose our teams, leagues and sponsorships, and not be judged, questioned, or busted on? I think we lose sight of what this really is------a game!!! A bunch of big kids who just want to play a game. So what if someone is making money--don't contribute. make your choices and play. Let others do the same.

1. Not a fan of AAU. Based on past experience, would not play it if it was free.
2. I want Narch, State Wars and Torhs to make money-lots of money-or they would disappear.
3. If RHA is a source of revenue/profit for these tourneys, fine by me-just be up front about it. In fact, Daryn, Tim, et.al. arguably should be compensated for their time in setting it up if it will be so beneficial in the long run.
4. RHA volunteered that it had nothing to hide financialy. If so, then tell us what the money was spent on-I don't need to see the books, but give us an idea.
How's that?

Fair request of those who were supposedly all for doing this.

I couldn't agree more.
Wait - how much did I pay? Oh, that's right, $30. If they sent me a financial statement, I wouldn't even read it - and I have my MBA in Finance.
Thirty Bucks, and people want full accountability - YOU ARE KIDDING.

I am going to pull a Doug Jones and say that people who openly blast should be open about who they are. One poster with 2 posts and another with 11? Come on and man up about who you are. I met Daryn back when he was just a tournament director for NARCh and I know for a fact he has the best intentions for the sport in mind. While we find different groups who are ego first or in it for an attempt to make a quick buck, people like Tim and Daryn have been there before those leeches came and stay after. Just an FYI, it is difficult for an up start non-profit to provide financials without going through a complete fiscal year. Be patient and give them a chance to do something before calling them out.

To any concerned player,
Yes I did say months ago amongst all of the drama of the week that if anyone had any questions about how RHA money would be used etc.. that we would have no problem "showing the books". I will state again today that I do not have a problem with that. I for one have nothing to hide as I have not personally gained $1 by using RHA membership. In fact I have lost benefits that I personally had with other groups and I have spent way too many hours (those that could be spent with my family or on State Wars) on RHA affairs. Daryn is in the same boat as I am.
If someone who is an RHA member would like to know any specific info regarding RHA, please give me a call or drop me an email anytime and I would be glad to answer any of your questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Tim McManus

1. Calihockey- I'm sorry if I am a rookie, and have not posted 229 times. But I have followed these boards for years; Why is my identity important to you? I've already indicated my support for Narch/State Wars. I do agree that Tim and Daryn are positive influences for the sport, and if they said they were pocketing the money and scamming us all, I would still play their tourneys, since the product is unsurpassed.
2. Roxbury- I know you are a mega-poster, and I also believe you are good for the sport, as you have been very involved for years. But 30 bucks is 30 bucks. If Richard wanted a dollar for every post you made, would you pay it? It's only a dollar. And I think most of us agree that Richard has helped this sport as well, and I don't think he is making a killing off this site.

I'll stand behind Tim and Daryn anyday. This is getting ridiculous. It really is.
For the record, I may make an ass out of myself at times or say the wrong thing, but I've always lived and died by my own sword on my own accountability.
Tim, anyone who knows you know where your dedication, heart and desires to grow this sport are.
You want to ask a question, introduce yourself...then we can all get acquainted.

Tim,
I met you once, and was honored that you took a few mnutes to speak with me. Your enthusiasm for this sport is unparalleled, and your reputation is pristine. If you say you have not made one penny from RHA, I believe you. So why not be financially transparent to all (perhaps on the RHA website), and not just to me if I were to call you. Even conservatively estimating 5,000 members at $30.00 per, that is $150,000.00. I realize that obtaining 501(c)(3) status requires professional assistance, and there are costs associated with the artwork and monthly conference calls, and $150,000.00 can evaporate quicker than I could know, imagine the confidence in the RHA that would result from such disclosuers.

Dear Mr. Jones:
Please explain why my request is ridiculous. I am only asking RHA to do what they said they would do-provide financial accountability. As mentioned previously on this thread, I support State Wara, Narch and Torhs. Tim even weighed in, reiterating that there is no problem in "showing the books". If you want me to go away, just do what you said last year-show the books. I really do hope that a financial disclosure will confirm the RHA's stated intent.

While I appreciate sarcasm as much as anyone, I think you would agree, Mr. Newell, that your (implied) analogy does not hold up, as Mcdonald's never claimed to be non-profit, nor did they volunteer to "show the books". Also, last time I checked, McDonald's was not asserting that it was going to unify and improve the fractured the fast-food industry.

username-- Im pretty sure Tim has already shown that he is willing to provide you with the requested information. You are seriously weakening your position by pushing this issue if you have not attempted to take Tim up on his offer.
Who really cares where the money goes? Did you keep track of where your money went with USA Hockey? AAU? any other organization? Stop being a pain in the ass and let these guys focus on putting together the increadible tournaments which they are known for.

I dont think Usernames request should be considered out of line because its only $30. Credibility is the key here. One of the biggest complaints about the reigning NGBs was always, wheres the money going and how is it being used to help the sport? It is a legitimate question. This is really a way that the RHA can differentiate itself, and I think that it will- it is in their best interests to do so.
Although you have been very polite Mr. Username, I think you ought to examine your own credibility. I take no issue with the fact that you asked the question, although others do, only the forum in which you chose to initiate it. Did you make an attempt to email the RHA first and ask them how they were progressing in meeting their stated goals for growth in the sport? You have said that information would be enough for you. If you received no response of any kind, I can see you calling them out, but to START there in a public forum, regardless of how polite, seems a little disingenuous.
Also, I am curious about the timing of your request...why now? August 31st was the end of the membership year for USAIHL and AAU I believe, but if my old memory serves me well, I believe that RHAs membership year goes by end/start of the calendar year. If that is correct, they dont even have their first year under their belt yet! Thats hardly enough time to have a lot of their marketing/growth type projects built and completed, although, I did notice they had some coaching seminars(free of charge, I might add) at NARCH and State Wars. If you regard those invovled with the RHA as highly as you say that you do, calling them out only 9 months after their inception seems a little premature. Jeez...cut em some slack. Whether or not you agree with their choice to begin the organization, I believe that these individuals have at least earned the courtesy of some time to build before we start questioning their motives or integrity.

...Did you keep track of where your money went with USA Hockey? AAU?
Uh, not for nothin', but...
Both AAU and USAHIL issue very specific reports regarding exactly where/how their money is spent. In addition, any person who takes part in either of these organizations' events/activities has multiple times each year to personally experience where/how money is being spent.
I have kept track of this since 1987, inlcuding the pre-cursor organizations to both of the present-day incarnations. It isn't rocket-surgery, ya know.
I do get tired of hearing about how neither of these organizations (AAU/USAHIL) fills the bill. While I cannot count either Tim nor Daryn as close personal friends, I am at least acquainted with both, and while I applaud their eforts to bring a new level of organization to our sport, I am not sure that this has been accomplished...yet, at least.
Not trying to rag on anyone or anything, but I have to agree with the redoubtable Ms. Hockeymum, let's wait til actual year-end and look at the situation.
