To run a 1st year organization I think you have to budget for atleast $15,000 - $20,000.
Your biggest expenses will be rink time, referee fees, uniforms and league entrance fees all of which should total around $12,000.

It depends on if you have 1 or 2 minor teams but its safe to say somewhere between 3-5K per organization.

about $30,000 per year.

THe 2009 - 2010 league fee for the AIHL is $3250.
TO figure your other costs consider this:
Uniforms - x 30 players min
Rink Time x 8 home dates (3-4hrs each)
Referees x 8 dates ($100 - $130 per date)
These are are bones costs.
I suggest it takes about 10K minimum (no jerseys). Maybe realistically 15K to start a new franchise.

If you are going to try and run an organization that goes beyond just playing games it cost money to get people in the building and build a brand/program. I am with Matt Zuba on this it cost $25,000 - $30,000 per year.
However, if you have cheap rink time, good sponsors you can certainly do it cheaper.

That is so nice to hear that it is that cheap.
I like that promotion is mentioned, and sponsors. You don't need to gain BIG sponsors. Local business shold get naming rights on jersey's and a game day sponsor only needs to pay enough to cover rink and officials costs. so if marketed right, you shouldn't have to spend to much at all.

As a player I pay about 400 every year. Based off of 30 players I would estimate between 12,000 and 15,000 to run the team. My organization is lucky to have Alan Simpson who donates some serious money and time to the team. We also have a few small sponsors (most of which are places where the players work) to help cover a small amount of the cost.
Our rink has agreed to provide the team with decreased rink time if the players help run some tutorial sessions and charitable skates for kids.
The 400 listed above does not include uniforms. It does cover: almost weekly practices, all games, team clothing, and a few other items necessary for the team to play.
