I remember reading that August 15th was the deadline for applications for new teams, but haven't seen anything yet on who they are. Does anyone know of the new teams this season and the teams that are not coming back? Also is the season starting as of October 1?

It's late and I'm doing this off the top of my head...but here goes.
New England Division
Long Island 495ers
Suffolk Sharks
Hartford Fire Ants
Boston Swamp Rats
Beantown Braves
Massachusetts Mulissha
Mid-Atlantic Division
NJ Surge
NJ Grizzlies
Garden State Savage Wolves
Southampton Cyclones
Philadelphia Brawlers
NJ Nightmare
Colonial Division
Pittsburgh Bandits
Scottdale inferno
Winchester Generals
Potomac Mavericks
Maryland Knights
Richmond Robbins
Pacific North Division
Nor Cal Riot
Northern California Mustangs
San Jose Pirates
East Bay Jawz
Rippon Savage
Southwest Division
Phoenix Dragons
Tucson Desperados
El Paso Black Diamonds
Las Vegas Aces
Pacific South Division
Huntington Beach Blades
Pama Cyclones
Irvine Anarchy
Junior Ducks
San Diego Voodoo
I could be wrong about some of the West Coast teams, but I think this is pretty accurate.
Teams not returning to the best of my knowledge are the Raleigh Dragons and the Oakland Goodlife.
Although the deadline has passed for teams to join the league in existing divisions, there are several regions interested in joining the league as a division and they have until September 15th to do so. I would expect some announcemnents soon as to who these proposed regions are, but I am not the one who should be doing that so keep an eye on the AIHL's official website.

To answer your other question, teams are permitted to schedule games as early as October 1st. I honestly don't know how many teams will choose to do so, but the option does indeed exist.
The AIHL's Eastern Conference conducted it's scheduling meetings earlier this evening. Beyond the normal home and away events, something to look forward to is the jamborees that each division will play against each other.
The 6 teams from the New England Division will play 1 game each against the 6 teams from the Colonial Division @ the Sportsplex in Feasterville on the weekend of November 7th.
Also, the 6 teams from the New England Division will play 1 game each against the 6 teams from the Mid-Atlantic Division @ Skate Safe America on Long Island on the weekend of January 16th.
There is also a jamboree to be played between the Mid-Atlantic Division and the Colonial Division, however I don't have all of the details at this time. Perhaps someone from either of those divisions could fill in the blanks.

The 6 teams in the New England Division Are:
Hartford Fireants - Zrink
Boston Bees - Holbrook
Boston Rats - Holbrook
Mass Mulissa - Rhode Island
LI 495ers - Skatesafe
Suffolk Sharks - Inline 1
Each team plays the other once home and once away (double headers) plus 6 games vs the colonial div and 6 vs the mid atlantic div. 32 games total.

The Georgia Syndicate is trying to stay in the AIHL, but with Raleigh not coming back this season that left us out on an island. There are several people working very hard trying to build a Gulf Coast Division, but final decisions need to be made so other organizations can make theirs.
Before this Friday the questions should be answered and plans made!
See you at the rink,

Best wishes go out to you and your organization. I hope that both the sun and the moon align and things work out. We would love to see you back in the AIHL to continue what you have started.

Thanks Mario for the kind words, we are waiting for one more piece of the puzzle to fit into its slot. If they come onboard we will have a 4 team Gulf Coast Division, if they don't there will be too many miles between the other three organizations to make it work. But I'm hoping for good things to happen over the Labor Day weekend!
If that organization read's this board, I would hope he has seen all the positives this league has done for elite adult inline hockey. You meet new people and play good competition every time!

To the Organization that is still deciding, JOIN! JOIN! JOIN! You won't regret it for a second. The AIHL is made up of a ton of great people who want the best for our sport!
(and this is coming from a guy who plays on a team that one 3 games the past 2 years, lol!)

Yeah I would agree with the other posts. It would suck if the georgia team couldnt play simply because of their location.
Hopefully these other teams decide to join 4 divisions on the east coast would be awesome. Best of luck!!

Great news from the Southeast/Gulf Coast area, the last organization gave the "yes" answer into forming the new AIHL Southeast/Gulf Coast Division. Teams from the following cities are joining The Georgia Syndicate to continue the growth of the AIHL in the Gulf and Southeast US areas.
Gulfport, MS - Lafayette, LA - Houston, TX - Snellville, GA
More information to follow..........

great news! With this division and the rocky mountain division there is going to be some great new talent in the league. Not to mention the teams that have made the transition to the AIHL.
Best of luck to the Rat Cast guys they are going to have their hands full this season with all the extra teams.

Have a great season- its looks like it should be a ton of fun. Its really great to see the amount of team owner/manager involvement in the league, and nice to see that its encouraged. We hope to be able to take in some good games this season!
