I am going to the Redwings Blackhawks in game in Detroit on 12/30. Can anyone give me the names of some good bars I should go to after the game?
I found the Hockeytown Cafe, but its a little too expensive.
I am looking for the following:
Cheap beer
Redwing fans
Decent food
Close to JLA

there are quite a a few bars right in the area around the Joe, but don't be deceived by there location on a map. The Joe is surrounded by Cobo so regardless, anything good is a few blocks away...
For the a good time with a crowd, lots of beer, try the Old Shilelagh in Greektown because it has a free shuttle to the game, and parking is a little easier to find.
Closest to the Joe is The Post and Cobo Joe's. They are both in walking distance from the arena. The Post for drinks, Cobo Joe's for good food and an huge Red Wing following
Greektown casino is always good too, i know you can find some beer, a buffet, and a lot of wings fans there
Now since you said you want cheap beer, food, and close to the game, try Cobo Joe's for a pregame, then maybe the Old Shilelagh after depending how you like your brewski to food intake ratio

What about maybe what might be the most obvious -- Detroit Red Wing Chris Chelios' really great sports bar (obviously with a distinctive leaning towards hockey and Red Wing fans) --

GO WINGS!!! (a little 'reveal' on "Mr. Mystery" ACCCT2: I'm originally from Mt. Clemens, Michigan, and grew up at the time when the Red Wings were very derisively known as the "Dead Things")

Thanks for the help. Is it possible to walk to Cobo Joe's from JLA? I know that it is VERY close, but it looks like there is a highway in the way on google maps.

definitely able to walk from Cobo Joe's to the JLA... That 'freeway' actually goes underneath Cobo Hall so you technically can walk right over top of it, and believe me, if you get confused, follow the crowds of people on their way in jerseys...

Another thing you can take advantage of is the people-mover. It goes from the Joe to a lot of places in town, and I'm pretty sure it will drop you off right next to Greektown casino. It's pretty cheap, something like $1.50 a ride.
