After 2 weekends of play in the MCRHL, how are teams shaping up? Who are the favorites in D1 and D2?

As far as D1 goes its pretty much the same top teams as usual, Michigan State, Michigan, Ohio State. We played Michigan State to a 6-7 loss this past weekend (makes four 1-goal games in a row against them). Both teams played pretty solid, but we had some mental lapses in the middle of the game that hurt us badly. We got into a hole and couldn't quite dig ourselves out. It should be a great season for both of us though and I can't wait for a rematch.
I haven't seen Michigan play yet, but I'm sure they will be a solid team as usual. They did lose a fair amount of talent from last year, but Goldberg is still one of the best goaltenders in the league and they always show up to play.
In D2, Cincinnati has a good first year team and can be dangerous if you don't play hard. Grand Valley State returns most of their team from last year I think and they should be one of the top teams in the nation at the end of the season. Central Michigan also has a great team, with a few transfer students from the last years D3 National Runners-Up Oakland CC team. I haven't seen them play but I think they could definitely contend on a national level.

Wasn't there this weekend, but I hear MSU and OSU are clearly the best teams in the league...
I heard from a source close to the league that MSU's leading scorers Lubanski and Ascenzo from the past few years will be back second semester...along with James from OCC. Is that true? If so, they should be able to compete with anyone...
Any more thoughts on the MCRHL? Is there anyone who has been at the first three weekends who can tell us what they think about teams/players?
I'm sick and tired of reading about the "top ECRHA player" or whatever from other regions. Let's get some conversation going!

Ive been to most of the MCRHL games and lets just be real about the MSU vs OSU game, the final score did not reflect how the game went at all...MSU dominated.
This year should be more competitive with Grand Valley and Central involved in the mix. Both have good teams.
As for this upcoming weekend, there should be a good bunch of games to watch. By the end of the year I believe MSU and OSU will be at the top, followed closely by U of M.

i'd have to agree....msu dominated ohio state...ohio state scored 4 goals late in the game b/c msu couldn't stay out of the box....msu also won the fight at the end of the game...shorty after, #6 from osu threw msu's #77 helmet across the rink, who throws a helmet honestly?
from the stands i also saw #6 get his a$$ beat twice...hopefully this starts some kind of "rivalry" between the 2 squads...

I would say MSU dominated the 2nd period. We didn't play a full game and especially in the 2nd period and the start of the 3rd we let down and played some pretty terrible hockey. Penalties were huge for both teams and changed the flow of the game a lot.
As for the scrum at the end, that was just part of the game and I think everyone was pretty cool about it after it was done. The helmet thing was pretty retarded on my part, and I realized that right after I did it, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. That being said I think we have a good rivalry going between our teams, and this game definitely added some fuel to the fire. The rest of the season should be fun.

Wow.... referring to him as #6 from OSU when it clearly says his number in his signature on the board. Seems kinda like your calling him out....
Ouch...

Isn't he the one that got the two-handed slash across the head from the Lindenwood guy at Nationals?

So, after this past weekend I think we have a pretty good idea about where teams stand in the MCRHL.
Grand Valley has been doing well this year with a big win over U of M and gave MSU a good game, but MSU just has too much skill and leads the league. It will be interesting to see if U of M can bounce back after a couple losses.
I am looking forward to seeing what happens between OSU and MSU to see if OSU can react to getting such a beating last time. The Jan 17 weekend should have some great matchups between OSU, U of M, Western, and MSU. Also, the Jan 24 weekend should have a couple between Eastern, U of M, and OSU.
Any other thoughts??

So it looks like the MCRHL regular season turned out the way we thought it would. Michigan State leading the way with Ohio State right behind them. Michigan followed after, but just couldn't break into the top 2. Eastern turned out to be a disappointment this year, although I heard that a couple players did not come through.
This past weekend in Rochester had some great games, but I think the biggest story was what happened at the end of the MSU vs. OSU game. It was basically a repeat of what happened when these two teams met in Cincinnati. Once again #6 from OSU went after one of the MSU players before getting taken to the ground...again.
All in all a great season and I look forward to seeing what happens at regionals in two weekends!

Hiigh_Stick,
I really don't think that was the biggest story of the weekend. You guys beat us, that's fine, it was a good game all around. I took offense to one of your players taking an unnecessary run at one of our players as time was expiring. That is hockey for you, scrums happen all the time, the game was finished, leave it on the floor...

a pretty good description haha. #6 loves fighting MSU after his team loses to them, and he always gets taken down. It'll probably happen next weekend in West Bloomfield too. Still waiting to see MSU put together a complete game against OSU. in their 7-6 win it was 7-2 with about 4 minutes left and last weekend a weak shorthanded goal kept OSU in the game.
