Just curious of what people think is the best size for a roller rink floor.

I always enjoyed playing at Sports World Center in Tewksbury, MA where the Mass Bombers used to play. That floor measured 160' x 85'. Not overly long but nice and wide.

I also enjoyed playing in Feasterville, PA. Not sure of the measurements (Jeff ?) but it seemed like a good length and width for inline hockey.

Beyond that, I could sit here and tell you that Holbrook Sports Center has the ideal floor size but even I understand that it is a little on the small side.

Hi Justin,

Joe Noris brought that up when I spoke to him on Monday. He said something like 185' x 80', if I'm not mistaken. He said the RHI game was just perfect, but that the floor was a bit too big.

the bigger the better, floor makes a big difference too. I'd say my fav floors...Myrtle Beach, SC, Columbia SC, and Winchester, VA. All are huge floors and all are Ice Court. I guess it really depends on the type/size of player. I think 200 x 85 is best but not really common.

185x85 is pretty much the standard for inline, no?

is 175 x 80 a good size. Just putting some numbers out and see what people think.

the bigger the better, the bigger rinks let's the players showcase their skills, which is what roller hockey is about. The smaller the rink, the more advantage a less skilled team has in my opinion.

Agreed Katinsky! the bigger the better

I like Zrink and Skate Safe's main rink.

Nice and big.

Actually I was quite impressed withthe rink at Inline 1 in suffolk.

i think that Z-rink is perfect... if i lived close to conn that is where i would be playing... one of, if not the best facilities in the league.

i heard where Steel City plays is a big rink as well... having never been there myself it's hard to say.

as for the jersey/philly area rinks...

extremes used to be the best imo... huge floor, clean glass, fast floor, great locker rooms and showers

now...
feasterville is prolly the best, rink wise

then skaters choice/inman would be my runners up for this area.

all three of them bathroom set ups can get pretty gross though (when there is a large amount of people there, like in tournaments) just for the games, they are usually fine.

I'd agree that ZRink is one of the best in the northeast area. Out here in the Midwest, Matteson would be the best rink if they waxed the floor as often as they needed to. I haven't played at the Tour Arena in Colorado, but I really enjoyed the rink layout at the Soc-n-Roll in Monument. I barely remember it, but the Palace in Vegas was nice when I was younger.

Extremes! in Bridgewater was 185 X 85 we shortened the rink to allow for more room behind the nets 13ft which is the Olympic standard as opposed to the NHL standard 11ft. We also had a sick ride on, zamboni like, floor machine that made cleaning the floor easy, 2 times a day we used it that's why the floor was fast and clean. We paid some local guy to come in and clean the glass around the rink once a year and it made a huge difference especially for tournaments and league play. The best thing we ever did was mount goalie fans in the rafters. One on each end, they were 24inch industrial strength fans and they were awesome. Even during stoppages and time outs everyone (players, keepers and officials) used to gather around the nets to get a cool breeze.

I like the sharks rink (inline 1) as well, that one was a bit long thought. I am used to Zrink. The only thing wrong with Zrink, totally unrelated to the playing aspect, is the stands. They don't have stands, kind of hurts from a fan perspective. But the rink size at Zrink is perfect in my eyes.

60m x 30m - be it ice or inline, full Olympic size rinks are great.

Though for a 3 on 3 play a nice and tight rink can be good, with eitehr side able to pepper the goalies all game long, its a very different game then.

C'mon Tro...why you gotta bring back good memories. Extremes! was easily my all-time favorite rink to play on, of every rink ive played on, including nationals and such. Then again, it is where i started playing so maybe im biased. Playing on rinks like ISCA and Tab Ramos is just absolutely frustrating with the lack of space. Inman's probably the best rink around here now. But god, id give anything to have Extremes back. Good thing Billy's in this convo, still remember when he busted a pane of glass at extremes with his stick...classic.
