Its officially in the books. Itan has played a game in the ECHL.
It was a loss for the Ontario Reign in a weekend split with the Phoenix Roadrunners. Itan saw a bunch of minutes, was even and had 3 shots on goal. That's a start as he was a healthy scratch through the first few games and has been working hard day in and day out in practice to build the confidence in the coaching staff to give him the real deal...
Its a great thing to see and hopefully he will become a regular soon enough
Im sure IHC Readers along with myself send nothing but the best to our buddy Itan by saying GOOD JOB!!

Again, it's great for the sport and for the Reign to have Chavira in their lineup!

A player was sent down from Manchester and another player was picked up in a trade, I think this is why he is no longer on the roster but I am not sure.

I was going to make a full release about it but things are looking up as there are a couple of teams interested in bringing him aboard and we are looking into that now and should have an answer soon....
To answer the question longboarder, you pretty much have it - with guys constantly going up and down in the organization and them trading for Max Boisclair it was 3 extra forawrds on their roster and paying extra guys to do nothing but practice sometimes is a strain on their budget and the cap - so he was released unfortunatly....
After speaking with him yesterday he is totally optimistic and looking forward to what the next day holds and still working out and having fun - that's Itan
Hi, this is my first post here.
I'm one of the admin of the french website rollerhockeyfrance . com . A kind of french IHC.
From the informations we received today. And according to Itan's Facebook profile, it seems that he'll play in-line hockey in France for the rest of the season.
We have yet to find out which team has signed him, but Rethel (North-East of France) is the most likely to be the team he'll play for. Indeed, Rethel is the wealthiest team in France, and almost the only one that pays players. This is also the most successful one, with many french and european championships titles.

Well, congrats to Itan. We better not see him in a Frenchie's uniform at Narch this summer....

Hi Folks,
In last night's NHL game between the Los Angeles Kings and Dallas Stars, the game went into overtime and then a shootout. Mike Ribeiro scored a fantastic shootout goal for the Stars by passing the puck between his legs, skating away from the puck, and then extending his stick to push the puck past Kings' goaltender Erik Ersberg.
Then Derek Armstrong jawed at Ribeiro, probably saying that sort of move had no place in the game. Well, I am a huge Kings' fan, and I think Armstrong is nuts. It was an awesome goal, and it faked Ersberg out of his socks. And then the Kings got a goal from Alexander Frolov, tweeners on Marty Turco, and the Kings won the game. Would Armstrong have been happier if Ribeiro had not done the fancy move, Frolov had missed, and the Stars had won?
Thank heaven for players like Itan Chavira. As Joe Noris told me when I interviewed him for my RHI book on Monday, "Itan is the poster boy for our sport. That’s the greatest thing about our game – the dipsy-doodle."
I agree.

Richard it wasn't the move he was jawing at him for, it was the gesture afterwards. After he scored Ribiero put up his finger to his mouth like be quiet. You could actually read Armstrongs lips when Ribiero got back to the bench saying like "It was a nice move, just don't do that $#!# afterwards."

Yeah, I saw the shootout too. The move was a real nice, but then Ribeiro took his hand out of his glove and put his index finger to his lips and basically made a "shhhh' gesture. Kinda a taunt if you ask me.
Thats fine if he wants to do it, just don't wonder why there is a guy on the other team that wants to bring up the fact that there is a difference between celebrating and "showboating". Leave that kinda stuff to other Pro sports.

I have to give Ribeiro a ton of credit for pulling off that move for the goal. Even the celebration was warranted if you see the hit that put him in the locker room for much of the third period. He went into the room, got stitched up and came back to score an amazing shootout goal to extend the game.
I thought the celebration wasn't too much, especially not after a goal like that in the situation that he scored it.
Shame his team couldn't get the W.

Hi Downz,
You are right about Ribeiro's gesture. I forgot about that. Old age, I guess. ;)
I must have been running the great move Ribeiro made over in my head when he did that. It is understandable for the Kings to dislike the gesture Ribeiro made after his goal. However, Frolov and Ersberg went out and silenced Ribeiro and the Stars by their own great plays.

Hi Joe,
Yep, you're right about the taunt and the justification for Armstrong's response. Thanks for setting me straight.

Hi Dane,
I agree that Ribeiro was tough to come back after that hit and score that goal. But the taunt was unnecessary.
I disagree that it's a shame that Dallas didn't get the win. No, that was simply wonderful. :D
Hi
We at RHF have interviewed Itan about him coming to France. To allow american readers to understand what he has to say, we published the interview both in french and english (the US version is below the french part)
As this is only my second post here, I'm not allowed to publish a link, so you'll have to copy the adress in your browser, minus the spaces :
" rollerhockeyfrance . com /2008/11/13/entretien-avec-itan-chavira-frus/ "
I hope this is fine with the admins, otherwise, I'm sorry and just edit my post.
Thanks.

Hi,
It was either too late (or too early) for me to figure out the correct link for the French site, but Google did help me find the following story on Itan Chavira:
http://www.dailybulletin.com/search/ci_10960164?IADID=Search-www.dailybulletin.com-www.dailybulletin.com
I've asked IHC's readers to donate to this website, and have been very appreciative of the donations that arrived in October. Maybe we can find a way to donate to Itan's potential pro ice hockey career, and all take small commissions if he should eventually make it to the NHL? ;)
It's worth a try... Go Itan!
Nice article.
Just to say though that this paragraph :
The contract is for one year, he said, in a season that begins Sunday and could end as early as May depending on Rethal's playoff success. Coach Thiebault Et Audrey said in an e-mail to Chavira that the league's average salary is roughly 1,500 Euros per month, and the top monthly salary is 3,000 Euros - approximately $3,800.
is complete BS. There are very few paid players in in-line hockey in France. Most of those who are paid play for Rethel, the team Itan's going to play for.
The most paid players get probably around 1500 + an apartment and maybe a car. Nothing more, and this definitely doesn't add up to 3800 $.
Most players in France only get ther gear for free and that's about it. They have a real jobe beside to make a living.
This was just to make tings clear.

I guess I would have had to watch the whole game to judge the "taunting". Was he instigating this? Or was it retaliation? It also sounded like the crowd was booing him (possibly for the goal?). Maybe that is what prompted the gesture?
My opinion is that he meant to go between his legs and let the puck slide in, then realized it was going to go wide and re-directed it at the last minute.
Tonight in his first game in France, Itan scored 2 goals in a 7-5 victory over Grenoble.

Does this European league have a website or any good videos online?

Looks good, though it does appear from the French comments below his interview that (roughly translated from RHF Crew) "This figure is completely illusory!! After it is either because the
journalist was mistaken or lied, or because Itan was mistaken or lied,
or because the shipper of the mall was mistaken or lied..."

from talking to the french guys who play in my team, the wages sound inflated as well. Though they said one or two of the big italian clubs have the money to pay a few of their players like that.

Sounds really cool though. Kinda like the AIHL and PIHA should be.

Asiago Vipers (Italian Team) is another team that has a lot of $. Currently Brian Yingling and Cj Yoder play there. In the past Jamie Bufalino & Greg Thompson have played out there too! I know Dave Hammond has played out in Europe too. Pretty sure an Italian team?
