Anyone in the secrhl making any divisional movements this season? DI to DII or DII to DI?
I think someone from USF posted they were moving to DII, anyone else have any info on the other teams?

Middle Tennessee is switching from the Great Plains to the SECRHL and we are playing D1, although for some reason it isnt updated on the ncrha website.

Yeah I know. We have written the head of the SECRHL twice and he has said he was going to take care of it. I'm getting kind of nervous about it since the season starts in like less than a month now. Can you think of anyone else we need to get a hold of besides Ed Luther?

Kennesaw State will be DivII from what I understand. They do have a web site www.KSURollerhockey.com if you are interested.

that sucks...what is wrong with west palm. That is easily the best surface to play on. Ft myers is sport court to but it is old sport court and has plexi glass...glass..

The Parkway Arena dates for SECRHL are:
- Jan. 17th & 18th
- Feb. 14th & 15th
Don't sweat the surface, we have been replacing the entire surface in sections so the slip it has is dissapearing between that and regular cleaning. I've heard the players of SECRHL aren't big fans of Parkway because of that and the fact that there's not much out that way. By the time SECRHL is there, we'll have our full concessions renovated, dressing rooms completed, & possibly our pro shop up by then. Most is about done now. Ask any of the locals, the place has turned around tremendously in the last couple months. We Look forward to seeing all of you then ;)

How about having 14 teams in the DII division this year? JMU, South Florida, and Florida State all moving down? I know that the DI Florida teams are tough, but is it really that hard to win at that level for them to move down? All this with the addition of a few new and returning teams is going to make for an interesting season to say the least.
Any additional thoughts?

Look for both DI and DII to be very close and competitive this year. The elimination of some teams from DI will not allow for any fluff games. The big guns will be fighting each every game. As far 14 teams in D2, it will be interesting. Less bids, so everyone will be looking for the auto. I would assume some of the move downs have to do with organization and others with talent.
I know FSU lost both goalies, their coach, and a couple of players. I assume USF lost their goalie, cause they guy has been playin forever. That alone would be a reason to drop down to D2.
Overall should be a good year in the region with a dog fight at every event.

You also have some teams that probably should have been in DII to begin with, but because of their school size they played in DI. So they aren't
"stepping down", they are going to where they should have been to begin with.
Another reason why the NCRHA divisions should never have been based on school size to begin with. But that is another soap box for another day.

Personally, like us. We were slated for DII, but everyone on the team insisted we play DI. Not my choice (not a good one either). But I guess it gives us a "better" chance to make it to nationals per say. But we arent the strongest DI team

how do you guys see the top teams stacking up in both divisions? Gotta Imagine something like:
D1:
Florida
UCF
FIU
. .?
D2:
FSU
USF
JMU
Tampa
WCU
. .?
I know Elon lost Weekes . . we'll see how they do without him.
Anyone else care to elaborate?

I am curious to see how the DI teams will fare when the bids are selected. You have three DI teams in the south region of the SECRHL that will play each other just about every weekend. MAYBE one team will stand out and win all the games, but I think it is awfully likely that you will see at least 2 of those teams near .500 at the end of the seaon. Plus they will also play several of the DII teams. How will those wins be viewed by the selection commitee?
NYR1199

FAU is joining the D2 division which would make D2 16 teams.
D1 early predictions:
Anyone one of those teams from the southern conference can bring it, I wouldn't be surprised if they are all .500 teams from beating eachother up all season.
1. UCF
2.UF
3. FIU
4. nc state
5. ecu/ md tenn
6. ecu / md tenn
D2:
1. FAU - they should be pulling alot of talent comparable to BCC
2. FSU/USF -can go either way with these guys, not sure if USF is returning there goalie
3. FSU/USF
4. USC
5. elon
6. emory

Who is playing for FAU this year? We also moved down to DII just recently so I think that makes 15 teams in DII and 7 in DI.

This is how I see D2 playing out
1.Tampa
2.FAU if they have BCC skaters
3.USF
4.Elon
5.FSU
6.South Carolina
7.James Madison
D1 will be dominated again by the southern teams

Kasey, Ed Luther gave FAU full confirmation on PBCC players playing for FAU. They had to obtain FAU identifications in order to play, which was done. FAU will have a few skaters from PBCC, and the roster is obviously available online. Keep the pain killers down, they tend to misconstrue your sights..... :p
By the way, FAU is a FULL TIME division two team, not an affiliate or a division one......

This is not Phil. I was on the ice team and joined the team after seeing flyers put up on campus. Phil is our backup goalie I think, if that is what you are referring to.

It looks like USF has Napert returning again in net which now gives them a good edge. As long as they dont have to skate with 5 guys in tournaments they should be good.

Tampa is a very underrated team and I think they will be one of the top 2 or 3 teams in D2. Also when Regionals come around will all teams be eligible?

I agree, looking at tampa, they seem like theyve added two more guys that can really play . . . kotcher, harrison, and these 2 other guys are going to make them tough to beat, not to mention their depth at goaltender
wednthavddr
09-29-2008, 08:37 PM
UT is for real. Kotcher, Porter, Harrison...everybody can skate..and their goaltending is solid.
For USF, Regan in net will be huge being that he is getting more playing time. The same team as last year with the addition of ricky nelson, charlie robinson, and most of all kyle wolf...It just sucks cause a lot of guys are hard to get off for some weekends and the amount of people going from tournament to touranment will be sketchy.. Looks to hopefully be a fun season in the renovated D2.
My top teams in no order are...
UT, USF, FSU, maybe ELON, COC, and USC.
Good Luck this season.

3 bids for DII? My understanding is that they were cutting done on the number of bids for DII to add an incentive to play DI.

I talked to a friend who goes to Elon the other day and I think you guys are all underestimating Elon's ability this year. I think they have a lot of sleepers. First, Harold Godwin is entering his fifth year of collegiate roller hockey, he put up some numbers before he began to focus on academics; he should represent himself well. Secondly, Angus Dunk will replace ryan weekes' spot without any questions. He broke his left arm and leg in a car accident last summer, and he played games with a leg brace and a cast. He is likely to put up fantastic numbers, like he did in California before moving to Chapel Hill two years ago. Finally, Elon returns Sophomore Trevor Ballantyne. He didn't put up any numbers until it really counted (regionals, nationals) because it is my understanding that he played the entire season with a dislocated shoulder! He had multiple shoulder surgeries playing top-notch high school ice hockey in Massachusetts, so now that he is healthy, look for his numbers to replicate Ryan Weekes' numbers. Elon is my pick to go 4-0 this weekend, and to repeat in DII.
Anyone else?
rocksforhands
10-01-2008, 06:22 PM
Don't get me wrong I think Elon is a good team and by far the best team north of Florida in all divisions. The best game of the weekend in D2 will be Elon vs Tampa. I believe whoever wins that game will be 4-0 and the early frontrunner. If FSU adds Kasey from BCC they will definitely be a force to keep an eye on. And if Napert and Wolf play for USF you can't count them out either. This will be a great weekend...good luck to everyone
