Question for RowanPhil: I saw on your web site http://www.freewebs.com/rowanrollerhockey/ the following quote: "These tryouts are designed to pick the roster for the ECRHA Division II team and a PCRHL team.".

I'm not familiar with the initials "PCRHL". Care to share?

Thanks.

Where would the teams in the PCRHL fit in (i.e. DIII, B) if they were in the NCRHA?

Below B.

The PCRHL is sort of intended to be a feeder league for the ECRHA.

Would you say that it's almost like intramural?

it depends some schools who are just not competitive/organized for the ecrha are in it, it as well teams who are more like intramural teams, neumann drexel, temple, west chester, ect have 2 or 3 teams made up of the people who are cut or did not tryout of the varsity team. but schools like saint joes lebon valley upenn have teams in it as well who may have tryouts to play on that there team. i also believe there is no 5 year max for the pcrhl.

Welcome back to DII Drexel and Neumann.... weak sauce.

It is to be noted that high-caliber talent is not a prerequisite to play Division I; rather, Division I is intended for the most organized and committed member clubs.

http://www.ecrha.net/article.php?article_id=52705

I take this to mean that Neumann thinks it is unorganized and not committed to the league. Because I know it's not the matching gloves or pants that are getting in the way....

Why does it matter if Neumann is playing DII again? We actually played a really good second game against them, and even though our team is going to be weaker this year, I am looking forward to playing them again.

Because the divisions are not supposed to be divided based on playing ability. For years teams complained that the divisions were divided the way they were for the wrong reasons, so now the league goes and fixes it, and the teams that it is supposed to be there for are not using it. It's great that you guys played a good game against them last year, but that should have absolutely nothing to do with it.

How small is Neumann? I slightly remember hearing something from Neumann that because they are a small school that being able to field a competitive team in the next few years may be a challenge. That could be a reason why they do not move up.

That's fine that they may not be able to field a competitive team in a few years, since you are able to move from one division to the other year after year. Neumann is a very small school (a little more than 2,000 students), but ever since I've been involved in collegiate roller hockey (dating back to 2001) they have been able to field a very competitive team. There should be no one left from their original team, and yet they've still managed to lose only 6 regular season games in 6 seasons (including none last year). All the time they have had matching helmets, pants, jerseys, coaches, and now gloves. I continue fail to see a reason, especially with what the new divisional structure is supposed to be based on, why they continue to stay in DII.

good post I did not know the history of Neumann, if the team does not take any initiative then perhaps the league should and maybe have a petition set up to move teams up. I like having teams like Nuemann, Drexel, or Ship in DII it gives the less organized and newer teams a set of standards to shoot for.

Binghamton was DII until we won nationals in 2003
Then we moved up to DI until last year we dropped back down to DII
due to lack of funding and the team that won nationals for us dominated that year
we finished .500 last year

Nice to hear that you think Shippensburg sets a good standard for a young team like yourselves. It's obvious we have found the correct division for us. You guys performed very well in your first season and i see continued success in the future.

I agree that Shipp (with two Ps, for Bill's pleasure) is a good DII program, who has made strides to become more and more developed, and are exactly where they belong based on their past and the resources available to them.

I really thought that fad had died off when Stanley left.

Nope, not a clue who is returning. But why does that matter one bit? The whole point is that the team has to fit into certain categories based on organization (as was posted above repeatedly, and was part of the NCRHA's divisional structure guide, if you bothered to read it), NOT skill level.

I am under the impression that Neumann won't be out there with with 4 skaters and a goalie, mismatched Mylec helmets, pinnies, and sweatpants this upcoming season. I will completely retract my statement if that is the case.

what good is being organized if your winning only 2 of 20 games and not being competitive in most of them (re: hofstra) and i'm not knocking them either.

They lost by one goal a heck of a lot to be considered "not competitive".

It's a lot easier to score chicks when you brag about being the Div. II champ as opposed to losing the Div. 1 Elite Eight, I guess.

Relax AJ. Scotto and Sangeorgio graduated and I doubt their fathers will return as coaches. Maybe they can't find a person willing to travel to all the games and get USA hockey certification. I haven't talked to any of the guys on the team so this is all speculation. Good luck to all the teams this season.

i'm a freshman there and was really looking forward to playing on the team but haven't been able to find anyone or any information about the club. i've talked to some other freshman about playing who were interested but not enough to have a decent team and i don't even know where the closest rink is to play.

Don Roberts is another freshman at UDel who may be interested in a roller hockey team. (BTW, you may be him, so sorry if this is absolutely no help to you!)

As from what I can tell, the old UDel team used to play at the Blue Diamond Inline Hockey Center in Wilmington, but I'm not sure if it's still around. Hope this helps!
