I just found out today that a good friend and ex teammate Thomas Stahl fell off a bridge in cincy at statewars. Unfortunately, he fell 50 ft and is in a coma with a broken back. Last update, no paralysis, thank god. I wish him the speediest and healthiest of recoveries. He is one of the best players I have ever played with. He was a member of the nj assault, mission snipers, and homecare America. He led torhs pro tier 1 in scoring at age 16! He is one of the guys who is great to watch in this sport! Thomas and Anne (his mother) are both on my prayers.

Just to add what I know. The coma was more doctor induced, for fear of Thomas waking up and being in severe pain, something along those lines. His fall was from 50 feet and he landed on his head and back. I was told he had a blod clot on the brain which they had to go in and get out, and he has some broken vertebrae. He was also able to breathe on his own and was reponsive. I found out all this around 3pm on the west coast, so I'm sure there is some more postive updates like Gene said. I pray for a speedy recovery for Thomas.

just to update some more...

Thomas had the tubes removed from him, he's starting to talk, and they released him from the ICU. There is a small chance he could be headed back to NJ on tuesday but either way lots of good news coming.

keep praying!

Just to update what I know also. Like Gene said the tubes are out. He was able to speak on the phone to his dad and brother, and when he first came out of the coma he asked where his team was. Awesome news. The other thing I heard is he was out of ICU, but was still going to rehab in Cincy for a week at least. Maybe that will change but that is the update I was told. He's defintely a tough kid. Get well soon Thomas.

I take it by the lack of responses to my post, not to mention the fact that it was deleted that I won’t be getting my answer on IHC… Didn’t mean any harm, just an unusual event to take place…

Again hope he makes a full recovery… Thoughts and prayers are with him!

Get Well Thomas!

Hey KevinM - not sure who you are but I just wanted to clarify for the readers that this IS NOT Coach/Commissioner Kevin Murphy from the ECRHA - just so there is no confusion.

Thanks.

I dont personally know nor have been fortunate enough to have ever met this young man, but on behalf of the Harrisburg Lunatics, and all hockey in the Central Pennsylvania area, I wish him the speediest full recovery and his return to the sport of hockey where he has excelled and made a positive impact. My prayers go out to both him and his family.

I got to meet Tom's mom at State Wars who was very sweet and kind despite the circumstances. Also, Leslie, from Cincinnatti, the coordinator of helping out with State Wars and our entourage, flew Tom's mom in, put her up in a hotel and took her to lunch to help her deal with the events. I also want to say that Tim McManus, drove to the hospital and spent the early morning and part of the day with Tom right after his accident. Tim did so following the ambulance and staying to be with Tom until his family arrived.

Tim McManus is a 100% Class act.

I agree, Tim has always been a class act and a first rate example of gentleman in this sport. The hockey community should be grateful and appreciative of all the efforts he has put forth to its betterment.

The genuine, unselfish, care and concern from Tim, Jason, Leslie and so many of his closest friends, teammates, players, coaches and well wishers rallying around Thomas and his family is a testament to the goodwill of the sport. Not to mention a real indication of how many people Thomas and Ann have touched over the years. Keep the prayers and well wishes flowing.

Don't know him, but that's a hell of an injury. Here's hoping he makes a full recovery and this becomes a distant memory.

Update #1:

For the Thomas Stahl Benefit Tournament will be running a program called:

“Sponsor A Ref”

As you know when running a tournament referee fees per game run about $30 per game with 2 officials on the floor. Since we are expecting every division to sell out are estimating that there will be over 50 games played. Which means we will be spending over $1500 if referee fees.

With that being said we are asking all to sponsor a referee. The minimum donation will be $15 and could be up to any dollar amount one would give. If you would like to donate please contact Chris Gosha at (732) 290-0003 or via email at [email protected]

Update #2:

Today Tab Ramos Sports Center owners announced that they will be donating all rink time for this event, which means the only cost for this event will be referees, scorekeepers, and awards!

Update Regarding Thomas:

He is home and doing well, I will be heading over to see him this afternoon. Also spoke with Ann last night and found out he will not need back surgery and only rehab is required. The bad news to this is that he will be back on the hockey floor making all of us look silly again! I can’t wait.
