View Full Version : 2008 Piha Mvp
I was just reading on PIHA's website that Kyle Gouge of the Tornados was named MVP. Not talking bad of Gouge, but how did they come up with that? It seems like an arbitrary decision. I mean there were a lot of worthy candidates. If they choose it by the most important player on the best team, which record wise, then the Tornados were. But I'm not sure Gouge was even most valuable to his team. Barnette had the same number of points (51), more game-winning goals (9 to Gouge's 5), and more star points (45 to 31). Why not Pinheiro, Larricchia, or even D'Aloisio or Rohrbach? Without getting into a PIHA-AIHL debate, any other reason they made this decision other than making this decision based on who left the league?

I think it was done to try and keep a certain division in the league.
I guess if teams didn't leave the deserving players such as Laricchia, Pinheiro, and/or D'Alosio would have gotten it.
You can even throw another goalie name like Roger Lee from the Blaze out there for that title.

They announced Gouge as MVP at the PIHA Finals post-game banquet. Don't think they knew for sure who was leaving the league at that point.

I wasn't bashing Kyle Gouge in any way. I have never seen him play in person being on the east coast. I have only seen him play on youtube from the Gateway videos. Everyone says what a great player he is.
