View Full Version : First Annual Dragon Cup - College Roller Hockey Preseason Warmup Tournament

Everyone,

I am pleased to announce that the Drexel University Roller Hockey Club will be organizing the first annual Dragon Cup, a pre-season warmup tournament for college roller hockey teams only. This tournament is open to all College roller hockey programs, both NCRHA and PCRHL alike.

This event will be held at the Sportsplex in Feasterville, PA on August 16th, 2008. Tournament start times will be announced after solidifying the tournament field. Entry fee is $400 per team and comes with a 4 game guarentee. This will be a one day tournament, including playoffs, with scheduling done ahead of time in consideration of any programs willing to travel for the event.

The tournament will feature games of 2, 15 minute, running clock periods, and a to be determined single-elimination playoff round following round robin play.

Interested parties, please email [email protected] with inquiries or registrations. Payments must be made in full, on or before August 11th.

Hi Bill,

This sounds really great. Typically, I don't like to see identical posts in two forums, however. I'm wondering if we should just leave this one up, and delete the one in the events forum. Anyway, I hope that this event is a big success.

James, if you can get up here, we'd be glad to have you. The Sportsplex is one of the best facilities in the region (although I do have a soft spot for it since I grew up playing there) and I know the club is working hard to make sure this is a great event. I'll check with the board, but I can't see a good reason any college roller team couldn't play.

Just curious why you chose to do it so early in the season? Thats still almost two weeks before most of the schools head back and then its another week or two before everyone is settled and starting to play some hockey to get ready for the pre-season.

Most is a key work here. Most, but obviously not the school that is putting on a tournament.

Hence why i used "Most", i was aware of Drexel and their crazy semesters.

Good to hear. Hopefully you get enough teams without having to reschedule.

The tough part about moving it is what seems like perpetual Midterms/Finals for us Drexel kids; but, again, if the turnout is lackluster I'm sure we can work something out.

I didn't expect any out of region input, but if you and UMSL are interested, we'd love to have you... email me...

I would have to gauge interest...it would probably be a mix of A and B players. Highly unlikely, but then again, the drive really isn't THAT extreme. I'll see if anyone is interested (doubt it, but who knows).

I know you're only look for TEAMS. But, have you ever consider allowing individual NCRHA players in the area the opportunity to sign up and play on a team that is made up of players from say the, ECRHA, MCRHL, and SECRHL to bolster the number of teams in the tournament?

I know lots of guys that, live in close proximity to Feasterville and, attend schools in those areas.

Maybe you can get a few more teams that way. Just a thought?

How about incoming freshman that will be going to tryouts once school starts? Be nice to give them a taste of what's to come.

Could be a good tuneup for tryouts.

Well, I only got interest from 4 teams, so we are going to have to postpone this tournament. I am currently looking for a weekend in September which would be better for everyone. If you are still interested, or September is better for you, shoot me an email with some good weekends and I'll see if we can accomodate a better schedule...

Thank you to the teams who did show interest, you will be the first to know when this gets rescheduled.
