NARCh Day 2

Though the crowds were down in size a bit, the rinks were running at full steam ahead. I was walking around, shooting the breeze with folks from everywhere when I encountered a “Hockey Mom.” When most think of one, there’s a list that people have sent on e-mails about how you know you’re one… Well, this lady from Edmonton, Alberta, was not only still cheering for her son, but the team and using everyone’s name, but she was playing with her daughter on the floor all at the same time and not missing a beat. Talk about multi-tasking!

The day included three games of Bantam Silver action that went into the mid- second halves scoreless. A game between Treasure Valley, Idaho, and the NJ Mission Salsa went down to the last 1:58 with Idaho getting a power-play goal. Down on their hopes, and after a brilliant save by the Salsa goalie, they rushed down and threw a prayer of a pass into the mid slot that was somehow converted into a goal with just under a minute to go. The charged bench then sent out a well-rested Paul Kim onto the wing, and off the draw they regrouped and sent him long, converted a pass and he stepped inside and fired in the game winner with about 25 seconds to go – what excitement!!

I sat down for a long chat with Nabeel from Revision and reflected about how he got going in the great sport of roller hockey. His first finals was in Minnesota back in 2002 when he was working with Gerry St. Cyr with CPH and continued through the years attending with Primal and the MPC Bulls before joining Revision. Now he’s with not only a successful business, but a championship program in the Revision Devil Dogs. As a company, the Vanquish skate will debut at the end of 2008 – I got a sneak peek and I have to tell you, it WILL revolutionize the sport yet again… I am hoping to check it out personally in October at the USA In-Line Adult Classic in Vegas.
