So I got here early to see what it's like on day 1 and the atmosphere is electric. Already I have run into some of the big names in our sport. Gerry St. Cyr is here coaching, of all things, his son. I must be getting old. Gary Del Vecchio, USA Hockey In-Line president, is here passing out some cool stuff and speaking to people about different programs. Brad Brussati is here with Tour, Sean Riley with Mission and Nabeel with Revision… all have sweet booths with all the latest video games, lounges and greatest gear! Shayne Arsenault was here setting up the Hyper booth with bearings, wheels and some awesome video games that include guitars and drums. Dave Fromm is still going strong with the Mission CO Kodiaks and Dan Maxwell (Get well soon, Dan!) with the Mission Arizona Stars. Vio has nine games today and 12 tomorrow with the Tour Roadrunners, plus playoffs… not sure how he’ll do it, but after two weeks of NARCh he’ll fly back to New York, and take three days off – then off to State Wars!!
I remember the Bend Bullets from up in Oregon back in the late 90’s. I was sitting with one of their hockey moms, talking about the past and how long she has been with them. They still have the same jerseys and colors, red, white, blue and yellow, Classic!! Watching their squirts lose that game was tough, but their family knows anything can turn around in these tournaments, especially Finals.
Three penalty shots were awarded so far – all three players scored, too
The skills competitions each had about 400+ people around the main rink and what an atmosphere that created. There were many highlights throughout the day with only a few mercy games. There were some great goals, unbelievable saves and great cheering sections…T he best being the organization from the country of Colombia – sounded like a soccer game.
