Hi all,

I just wanted to share an idea with you folks that I think might promote youth inline hockey a bit more. I'm actually "borrowing" the idea from a program my oldest son was involved in, called Team America Rocket Challenge, which was a program to get kids interested in building and launching model rockets and competing on a national level. The idea was to get kids interested in math and engineering and was promoted by NASA and firms like Boeing.

The bottom line is when a school put together a group that was competing, the organizers of the program gave the parents of the kids a "press kit" that they could take to their local newspapers and describe the program and the kids that were involved. They pretty much had it all laid out and the parents had to get a few quotes from the kids and then just fill in the blanks. Local papers were very happy to have a feel good, local interest story. With the cut backs in the newspaper industry, they were happy for a freebie.
Now that the Junior Olympics, Team USA, State Wars and Narch are right around the corner, it might make sense.

Here's a small sample of what it could look like:

"John Smith and Joe Blow, from Poodunk, are going to be representing their state in a National Roller Hockey tournament called State Wars taking place (where and when). They are one of only 10 players from the state in their age group to get this honor. They will be competing with the best kids from states all over the country.

John explains how he got started. 'I started playing roller hockey at (local rink) when I was _____years old. Roller hockey is my favorite sport ever.....'

More fluff, but the article ends with the information on programs at the local rink, how kids can get started and so on."

Think this has any merit??

Thanks!

Of course it has merit! Any positive PR is great for the game.

It's not a matter of what you do...it's that you're doing SOMETHING.

Let me see if I can dig it up, as it was a few years ago. But, I bet some of us could put our heads together and come up with something compelling.

Thanks for the feedback!!
