I'm pretty sure that the only changes for DI this year from last year is the predominant gloves are now mandatory in addition to everything that was expected of teams this past season.
DII voted at the acc meeting to make matching pants mandatory for DII this season.

I'm currently working with 4 schools for next season, 2 are looking real good and 2 are still on the bubble. All would be playing DII. No new teams for DI so far, if anything we may lose a couple.

would it be teams that had poor showings this season like RIT and UCONN?

Hi my name is jeff kahn i am the president of the florida state roller hockey team. I was wondering if the predominant gloves being mandatory is in fact a new rule, because we are going over budgets and such for next year. THanks, Jeff

Jeff good question? In response, the league would ultimatly like teams to have matching gloves/helmets; however, it is very difficult for most teams to meet this requirement and even more difficult for the league to enforce this nationwide. The secrhl has been trying to get this done the past 3 seasons, but no one enforces it, so i believe it is just speculation.

This is in fact a rule that will be enforced this coming season inside the ECRHA.
There is no speculation.
The rule was voted on by the the teams of the ECRHA DI at the conclusion of the 2006-2007 season to take effect in the 2008-2009 season.

To clarify, that predominant color glove rule is for ECRHA ONLY at this point. We are currently running an NCRHA pilot program that may take root nationally over the next few years, but I highly doubt that you'd see national glove rules go into effect until at least 2009-2010.

one question about joining the ECRHA next year do we need to have two suited goalies at games or can the back up goalie be a skater until needed?

You can dress one goaltender. Of course, dressing two is recommended, but many teams only dress one.

Hey guy,
Thanks for the invite to the scrimmage, we really enjoyed it. It should be a blast having almost all the Central NY teams in the league, I'm looking forward to a SUNY Brockport/Bingo/Cortland, Cornell, and Syracuse conference. A shame I'm not around for it, but what can ya do?
Most of the time we dressed a backup but on the by and large the backup rarely came into the game. We did have at least two other players capable of playing net (in my gear) but realistically, backups don't see a lot of time if the first goalie is as capable as yours is, so they'd be better off skating out.

UConn will be playing division one again this season. We have no plans on dropping down to division two. We want to stay in DI.

Yeah, for the past few years, I've been our backup goalie, but I played defense in the games. I've gotten a few games here and there in net, but I'm fairly sure I block more shots on defense than when in net...
We also have our B goalie that is capable of playing on the A level, but we never really botherd to make him dress, since the only way he was going to play was if our starter got hurt, and if that were the case, I'd be able to dress. But still, I've been dragging around my goalie gear with me for years now to hockey weekends without it getting much use.

There were a couple corner cases of Ithaca College kids who wanted to play roller and we looked into getting them into classes at Cornell (ILR stuff), but from what we got out of the rulebook that's pretty much not allowed.
It's similar to how the UC and SUNY system have a bunch of clubs; otherwise you could build a super-club out of the best players.
