I read a post somewhere in a thread that said Middleton, from UC Irvine is graduating.

Jim Tamburino, from Stony Brook, put a post up that this was his last year.

Steve Inge - ROXBURY 8

Not that anyone much cares, but I'm graduating. My 5 years in the NCRHA are up, also.

Hi csdahlberg,

With apologies to John Donne... ;)

For Whom the Buzzer Tolls

"No man is an arena entire of itself; every
man is a piece of the game, a part of the
industry. If a skate be thrown away by the manager,
Inline Hockey is the less, as well as if a team
were, as well as if a rink of thy friend's or
of thine own were: any player's departure diminishes
the NCRHA, because we are involved in the sport, and
therefore never send to know for whom the buzzer
tolls; it tolls for thee."

LU loses both our goaltenders and our assistant coach from the floor, erick cantrell. erick is being replaced by royalty, greg thompson is coming back home for 1 more year. add to that stephen campbell, jp beilsten, and phil maroon and we are even stronger. the goalies will be filled by jp susco and troy redman.

we had to respond to all the recruiting umsl was doing from our own team.

Penn State is losing myself (Nick Godfrey) and Corey Calajoe next season. 220 points combined in the past 3 seasons (I'll talk myself up a little bit here). We'll return 8 players from the D1 team this year, 6 of whom played D1 last year. The team should be in pretty good shape next year, especially with at least 2 or 3 of the B players being capable of playing D1 this year.

If you're saying what I think you're saying, that's a bunch of crap.

You mean like mister true-blue LU "I got four rings" from the other thread trying to get into UMSL at semester break? That was unsolicited, by the way.

One of our top defensemen (you know him well) just got a call from Lindenwood last week. What's up with that?

We recruit HIGH SCHOOL players. We don't poach from other colleges. Especially ones whose credits don't all transfer.

The skaters we have coming in are clear upgrades. I think the departing guys would admit as much. I don't think it's right to name names until those kids are admitted and enroll in school. That's the way most college sports are, so that's the way we're going to approach it. I'll just say that it looks like a clear majority of what most would consider to be the top ten HS seniors in St. Louis plan on coming to UMSL next year. We will be improved in both quality and depth.

As for goalies, there are many candidates. We're still sorting it out. Steve Cash did some pretty phenomenal things for our B team this year, including beating both halves of the Lindenwood B team once, and shutting out St. Charles despite only having six skaters in front of him. He is certainly a candidate.

whos more of your rival lindenwood or stony brook because both teams played you well? i know you lindenwood is your next door neighbor and the regional win was great, but now you and stony brook have split a pair in a matter of a year? im not trying to start a rally up or anything just a fun trivial question?

Interesting question. Since we operate on more of a level playing field, I'd be inclined to say Stony Brook.

(However, since we played them five times this year and they are constantly in our faces everywhere we go...Lindenwood has a good argument too.)

"One of our top defensemen (you know him well) just got a call from Lindenwood last week. What's up with that?"

Was it Thompson?

We return 5 out of 6 dmen next year...we only lose Erick Cantrell and we can find a broom to mop the floor instead of him. Haha. So, anyway...not sure why we would want a dman off your team.

All good man. I was just commenting off of what a certain freshman from CBC put on myspace...hint, it was an email from you.

But, sadly I am done with this. I have some other things to focus on for a bit.

He put that on Myspace? Geezus. Excuse me while I shoot myself in the face.

The value in plucking Thompson would be in taking him off of our team. While he is definitely better than at least two of the five defensemen you mention, you guys don't really need him. You have more than enough talent. He is an extremely valuable part of our team, however. (Remember the oops-knee-on-knee-hit message? I know you do. My point was that we can't be losing key players and expect to compete. This is along those same lines. Cordial as we all might be face-to-face, our guard is always up.)

I know, that's why I said you know him well. Someone from LU (the school, not the hockey team) called him.

He's another guy without whom we wouldn't have gotten as far as we did this season, regardless of what the numbers say. Maybe our best defensive defenseman, and shoots a bomb. He's right up there with the rest of our D-men in terms of value.

I'd say we have a bigger rivalry with LU just because they are in town. We are rivals with SBU though. They beat us when it really counted and that stung a lot. They were a tough team to play against.

Considering the amount of times LU and UMSL see each other I'd say that is a bigger rivalry than with SBU. However...Considering that UMSL and SBU have a history facing each other in "big" games it's a rivalry with big implications. Remember it started in DII finals. SBU came out on top that time. Both moving up to DI the same season and both doing well and making nationals was just fuel for the fire. I know that both teams had their eye on where each other lined up going into the seeding rounds. This rivalry will continue to grow, on a national level. Which in my opinion is far more exciting because each time they face each other the games really mean something. SBU has their division/region rivals as UMSL has their division/region rivals. BUT the history the two have together and how closley they mirror each other just makes it that much more intense. I think playing a team often removes some of the drama in the rivalry, when two teams only see each other during the nationals and have that history, it really creates a much more intense rivalry.....Oh and Congrats to both on moving up to DI and proving you belong. The season you both had at that level is impressive, be proud of yourselves. Can't wait to see what next season brings!!

Adam Koziol and myself (AJ Frey) are both done at Hofstra (5 years are up). We have one CRHL guy left, actually, in Josh Aronson (he took a year off before law school, so he still has a year left to play).
