So back in the day when I played inline hockey on a sports court, we played 5 on 5 counting the goalies. (3 forwards a defensemen and a goalie) at the time I assumed it was because the court we played on was much smaller then regulation.

Now my kid is starting to play Inline Hockey at a different location then I did and I see they are still playing 5 on 5. The court is enormous. In the 8u division you could fit all of the kids in the crease box of 1 goal. It seems to me the game would be better if they played full ice hockey strength. Having 2 defensemen, especially when you are on offense to open things up and create more passing opportunities seems obvious.

What is the thought of not playing 6 v 6, even at the adult level?

Is 5 V 5 universal in inline hockey?

Now for the really dumb question;

There is no Blue line on our sports court, is there offsides?

Roller hockey has been played with 4 skaters on each side pretty much since its inception I believe. There may have been some exceptions to this but the national standard has been 4v4 plus goalies. Although this may not necessary be true in 8u, having 4 skaters actually creates more passing lanes and a more open, creative game. Just watch an NHL overtime game and you will see what I mean. Without those extra two skaters on the rink there is a lot more room for everyone to work.

There is no offsides in almost every league/tournament. The only exception I can think of would have been the MLRH professional league which I believe used the center red line as an offsides line.

just to confirm what is stated above.... I have also known inline hockey to only be 4 on 4 skaters, plus goalies. Also, no offsides in roller hockey, which from my experience is one of the main reasons that ice players diss inline hockey.
