I am truly sorry for all the inconvience we Briarcliffe College has caused this year! We didnt come to the tournament this weekend because our school would not allow us to travel because according to them it was a "waste of money" to go with a short bench we did not find out until friday morning at 1130 when we were supposed to leave. I called our school to complain and was told its too bad thats our decesion and i was told that the school had called the league and notifyed them that we werent going to make it. I am sorry it took me until now to post this. But i truly am sorry to the teams of Maine, Vermont, and Ramapo for the forfeit and on behalf of my team i apoligize to the league for having to forfeit a second time this seaon. As of now the school said they want us to compete in the Long Island torunament in a coupke of weeks but if all of u feel that we should not compete in it i will tell the school that we forfeit the season! the 6 of us on the team would like to play and wanted to play this weekend but it had nothing to do with us, it was all the administartion of the school that stopped us from playing and once again i am very sorry to everyone that this occured again!

Mike,
We never received notification from the school. Please email
[email protected] and talk to Antone to see how he would like to handle the remainder of the season.

this post regards the all star game. for Division 1, how do you give HOFSTRA, UCONN 3-4 players and Stony Brook has 1 lone player. hofstra has 3 players in the allstar lineup and they haven't even won a game yet, Uconn is 2-10 and has only scored 23 goals this season. Really how was this team picked?

hockeydude 92,
Considering that Stony Brook only nominated one player for the all star game, it's kind of hard to magically throw their players on the roster. Their actual team won't even be at the All Star Event, so that's probably why they chose not to nominate any players with the exception of Tamburino.
And for your information, ACC reps and coaches voted for the starting line-ups and the rest of the players on the team. Kind of hard to vote for players not on the list.

Who is going to win the ECRHA d1/d2/b/nassau or suffolk at regionals? should be interesting. buffalo hot all season and the losing crucial games in the stretch. could the same happen for SBU? neumann proving themselves as a pure undefeated team in the ECRHA can they be upset like they did last season?

How did URI beat SBU? I've heard a lot of people talking about that around here, and wondering what happened exactly. Anyone have any insight for those of us who didn't see the game and don't have access to the super-secret ECRHA board? :)
(I did notice that the Rhode Island power play was great and that Matt Douglas didn't play...anything else?)

In DI, Buffalo played last weekend with their back-up goalie. Either Buffalo, Rhode Island, and Stony Brook have legit claims they are either the best or near the best. However, Rutgers, Towson, Penn State all have legit chances to put a run together. I seriously think DI is going to come down to who has the hot goalie. Defending regional champion and NCT Final Four RIT will most likely miss out on the playoffs leaving Stony Brook as the only team who could win back to back titles (Defending DII Regional and National Champion).
In DII, Neumann and West Chester are clearly the two best teams and i would expect them to make it to the final. Neumann has two wins over West Chester. The next 10 teams at DII are so close that its really hard to claim a third best team. However, if any team 3-12 gets a hot goalie, its not impossible that they beat Neumann or West Chester. Defending champion Stony Brook is now DI, but Neumann has won the last two even numbered championships (2004,2006) and lost the last three odd numbered (2003,2005,2007)
In B, I think the discussion begins and ends with Buffalo, however i don't keep a close eye on the B league. Suffolk has won the last four championships, with the previous three coming over Towson B. Both those teams have struggled this year, but are coming into regionals with winning records. It would be a shock not to see one of those teams make it deep in the playoffs.
In DIII, Nassau dominated the first match-up between the two teams. And Suffolk came back and dominated the second. They play twice more in the regular season (Friday and Sunday) and those should give a clear picture on who is better. When it comes to the DIII championship, its really hard to count out Suffolk since they have won the past five championships and a sixth is highly probable.

In response for you post James Lambert I was there to watch the URI SBU game because it was before mine. SBU came out strong with a two goal lead, but than after thats when all the trouble came. They became undisciplined and began making trips to the box. As a result URI capitalized on all the powerplays that they had. Six of the Nine goals Rhode Island scored were powerplay goals. Not that I'm defending Stony Brook but take those powerplay goals away and you have a 3-3 game, but hockey is not a perfect game so we will never really know how it would've played out. It came down to one team having more intensity, energy, and speed than the other. And that team was Rhode Island. As for Matt Douglas he is currently rostered on Suffolk (DIII) team, he might have been ineligible to play for SBU or transferred either way that is a crucial loss for them. SBU is still a contender for a title, but I believe that loss brought them back to the same playing field with teams like URI, Towson, Rutgers, Buffalo, and Penn State that are still a threat. It will be interesting what teams advance to nationals. ECRHA DI will be very interesting in late Februrary early March.

Yup, bout sums it up, that and it being the first games of the second half. I can tell you that losing that game gave the team a wake up call, you'll see a different team from here on in. As for losing Douglas, it will hurt, but doesn't weakin the team. It opens up time for some of the other players, now they have to step it up. Should be a good finish.

yea it gave them a wake up call but they were really never cocky or arrogant about it. They're a very class team; every team has a off day, and fortunately for them it was now rather than later in the season.

I attached a spreadsheet that'll predict where people are going to end up in the ECRHA DII. I was way too lazy to do the head-to-head tiebreak prediction for games that haven't been played yet, so you'll have to do the legwork on your own, but it will reliably give out pools based on a comparison of win percentage plus or minus .100 randomly.
If you pound control + shift + r (or run the AutoSort macro), it will do another simulation run and give out the appropriate standings.
I'd love to work in some weird sort of normalization or extra variable (like goal diff, past history, or something) but I'm lazy so someone else can do that.
According to the ad hoc 10 sample monte carlo...
Current predictions:
Pool d'Neumann: Neumann, Temple, Drexel, Mville
Pool d'WCU: WCU, Ship, SRU, Vermont
Pool d'Empire + Maine: Albany, Maine, Cornell, Bingo
oh boy!
edit: if it's sorting incorrectly turn off autocalculate, it screws with the goddamn sort

Was a really good game. Towson came with all the emotion in the game and Stony Brook couldn't match the intensity. Then Stony Brook took some penalties and got down and Towson stormed to the front. Stony Brook couldn't ever really get going because Towson shut down everything.

no better way of describing it, once again discipline was Stony Brook's downfall. 4 power play goals and an amazing performance by Towson. Will these loses be the result of SBU missing nationals?

not likely, they did beat rutgers 11-5.. if you look at the scores, its pretty clear that in the ecrha, anyone can beat anyone on any given day. regionals should be great to watch!

Stony Brook has 4 more games remaining, and if they win them all the will be the #1 seed at regionals. The chances of them not making nationals are slim.

Not Bad Overall, However, It is changed now based on results from Sunday.
Currently
Pool A: Neumann, Temple, Drexel, Millersville
Pool B: West Chester, Shippensburg, Binghamton, Cornell
Pool C: Albany, Maine, Slippery Rock, Vermont
Also, in your thing, Brockport lost all four of its games. Brockport will clinch if they win 2 games this weekend. Teams with 12 points only need one win to clinch a spot. Millersville is the only team who doesn't control their destiny.

Burke, is the glastonbury tourney going to be cancelled
MBurke
02-22-2008, 09:15 AM
No - with exception to massive blizzards, ECRHA normally does not cancel events due to inclement weather. However, if your team has either a safety concern or a mandate from the school not to travel, contact Antone as soon as possible (his number is in the private ECRHA area) and let him know.
With that said, at my last check the forecast is calling for about 6" of snow in the Hartford area throughout the day today, which should taper off tonight. CT is pretty good at handling snowfall and the roads *ought* to be safe by the morning.
Again, if you have problems and, for instance, don't think making your morning game is going to work out, let Antone know and we can likely make some adjustments to the schedule to allow you to get in later.

SB swept the weekend. The game against RI was probably one of the best games this season. A great season for a team moving up from DII. The games they lost were because they were out played, plain and simple. If anyone expected them to go undefeated you haven't been watching the other teams in the East. Gotta give props to Rutgers,Towson,Army they always come to play. RI is a good team, the fact they beat SB is no surprise. Army is always a tough team, they never just mail it in. Rutgers had a great season as well. Towson is and has been a competitive team, no different this season a loss to them is nothing to be ashamed of. So from my perspective it was a great season for SB, I'm a bit surprised they did as well as they did. One thing I know for sure is it's going to be a great regional weekend. I think all the games will be competitive. Good Luck to all, see you in Feasterville !!

I was watching the URI/Stony Brook game, and it definitely was one of the best games for division one I have seen all year. However, the referee missed a blatant penalty call that would have certainly changed the game in URI's favor, especially since on the ensuing rush down the rink, Stony Brook scored what proved to be the game winner.
Stony Brook played a great game though, as did URI. Both teams played a solid game and seemed to bring out a higher level of play in each other. Hopefully the referees will let the players just play at regionals and not determine any games over the course of regionals, even though the rest of the weekend I thought they did a good job of letting the players play without letting things get out of hand as well, although I am sure some people might not agree with me.
As far as regionals goes, man division one should be a dogfight. You can make a case for about 4 or 5 of the teams to walk away with it all. I don't know who is going to come out of the tournament as champion, although I will say I think that the key to regionals is going to be special teams and goaltending. If your team can stay out of the box, capitalize on your powerplays, and get solid goaltending, you will go far. On paper, a lot of teams are top to bottom just as good as each other.
For division two, I haven't seen a lot of teams play, but Maine looked pretty strong this weekend. They are a high scoring team with lots of good players... look for them to do well.
Good luck to all at regionals.

man you have to give credit when its due. it was probably a good game but you cant justify that one call could have changed the game. Both teams are good, both teams will have another shot at each other at regionals against each other!
