While i was on PIHA's site read about the Sting vs Pirates game, and i read something interesting about that game.
Here is a quote off PIHA's site:
"EJ Alley, captain of Savannah, showed his true colors when he fired a puck into the bench of the Pirates when the buzzer sounded in game two. Referees didn't assess a penalty to Alley which had the Pirates upset. "If he hit someone with that puck, we'd have a big problem right now", Jones said."
First of all, what happen that made him want to shoot the puck at the Pirates bench?
Second why wasn't there a penalty given in the game?
I know that there are two sides to a story, and i'm pretty sure that Mr. Alley did not shoot at them just for the fun it; but i do feel that under no circumstance should a player intent to hurt another player especially in that fashion.
Please keep in mind that I do not know EJ Alley, or the reasons for as to why he did what he did, but i'm trying to find out.

i dont know him either, but i could guess why he would, they were getting beat all over the rink and frustration took over

Yea you might be right, but I think that there is something more.
Just my opinion

I'd take issue with a league site reporting him as "showing his true colors" - doesn't sound very professional to me - tabloid at best. (Or are they trying to go all pro-wrestling and setup some goodies and baddies for people to boo and hiss at)
That makes the reporting sound slanted and makes me wonder on the actual circumstances of how the puck got fired into the bench, whether it was after the buzzer, and whether it was obviously absolutely deliberate enough for the ref to assess a penalty. (i.e. was the puck going into the bench plausibly deniable?)

Thats what i am leaning to, but at this moment it is all speculation. The only ones that know are the Stingers and Pirates.

and me, I went down for the games but it isn't my place to comment and I'm trying to cool things off between the teams in our division, not fuel them. Congrats to the Pirates on their first wins in franchise history.

I goaltended for the minor games for Savannah and sat on the bench for the pro games, so I feel that I had a pretty good look at the action without being (quite) in the middle of it. Still, my emotions would (clearly) be tilted towards siding with my team. :)
That being said, EJ "firing" the puck into the bench and "showing his true colors" is quite a stretch. Obviously, he was frustrated by the score. He was also frustrated by the many hits he was receiving, some semi-legal and some not. I will admit that my memory is clouded as to the exact time that he "fired" the puck into the bench, but if I remember correctly I believe that he shot the puck out of play in frustration and it went out of play over their bench, hitting the wall 10-20 feet above anyone's head. Again, I may be wrong on that, and should probably let him comment. However, I know he was not, in any way, trying to hurt anybody or shoot the puck directly at the SC players or anyone on their bench.
Piggybacking off of that, the comment about our goaltender slashing the player was a bit of a stretch as well. To truly recap what happened in that series of events, EJ was dumped behind the net on that play and was injured. The puck was then brought out into the slot, but the referee blew the whistle because (a) the Pirates gained control of the puck, ending the delayed penalty and (b) EJ was down (in fact, EJ was injured multiple times doing the two games, but the referees did a great job of dishing out the roughing penalties each time). After the whistle (perhaps 1 to 2 full seconds) the puck was fired into our goaltender's pads. Due to the hit and the late shot, the goaltender slashed/hooked the SC player. It was not a hard slash/hook, so much so that no penalty was called on the goaltender.
Surely a play like this, with no penalty even called, shouldn't be mentioned as a "highlight" worthy of mention in a "completely non-bias" recap.
Furthermore, let's take a look at the box scores and look at the penalties. I'm going to omit holdings and hooks, because usually these are just "regular" penalties, meaning that no one is (usually) hurt and they are penalties simply keeping the player from making a play. So, here's the breakdown from both games:
SC Pirate: 5 roughing penalties, 1 elbow, 2 high sticking penalties, and 1 slash = 9 "rough" penalties
Savannah: 2 roughing penalties, 1 slash, 1 cross check = 4 "rough" penalties
The SC team was clearly ahead in the game, so they really shouldn't have been frustrated. Yet, the "rough" penalties clearly tilted their way, based on the box scores.
All of this being said, I felt like the recap was highly one-sided and wasn't a good recap for a professional game at all. Instead of commenting on the actual minor and pro games, the tone of the recap really felt like a direct attack on the Savannah team and players. From where I was sitting (and truly and admittedly I am bias), it seemed as if our players were taking a lot of hits and really not retaliating much at all. I felt like we were being beat on the scoreboard and physically on the rink. I think the penalties reflect that. Yet, the recap made it out to be quite a different game.
I would like to see the recaps written so that neither team is attacked in any way. Even though my feelings are clear, based on this post, I don't think most of what I've said should be included in a recap either. I feel the recap should've been completely non-bias, gave the facts (that SC truly did kill the Stingers at the pro level, while Savannah won one game at the minor level and lost the other in OT), and comment on what happened without showing favortism to either team.
I am very proud and excited to be a part of this league, but more than that, I want the league to appear as professional as possible and gain respect, which will lead to more excitement and more fans.

Well put! As I spoke wit EJ this morning as well, he admitted to me as a friend that he did shoot the puck out of play. He also mentioned the same fact that it was not directed to hit anyone from the Pirates and it cleared their heads by an easy 15 feet.
As for the articles, this issue has been addressed...several times...and movement is being made to assure the fact that articles have proper etiquette and don't sound as though they are being written one sided.

Should be fixed now.
From a journalistic point of view, that's awful. I know PIHA doesn't have reporters writing about these games and they're probably going to be written by someone on one of the 2 teams. But, I'm playing in the Southwest division this year and will be the one writing up summaries of the games and in no way would I ever allow myself to write something that slanted about anyone even if someone cross checked me in the face with no provocation. Something like that should not be on the official PIHA website representing the league as a summary of the game.
The Chris Simon kicking incident is the top story on NHL.com right now. You think that article on the league website's front page says about anything about Simon "showing his true colors?"

No and the volunteers that do write about the games are usually players, coaches, or managers of one of the teams involved.

And que PIHA bashing..... now.
It's not bashing. I play and work in PIHA but that doesn't mean I won't say when they do something wrong. Posting unabashedly biased reports like that would be an example.
