Game 2 --- Growl 5 Demolition 2

Both games were good. There definitely seemed to be some bad blood between the teams.

can we not get a more efficient way of getting scores loaded?? not that its a big deal to me, but people following the league probably like to know up to date scores.. and if it takes anywhere from the 1-4 days like it typically did last year to post a score, it doesnt look too professional, as we call ourselves. Even waiting 4-5 hours after a game is too long.

A proffesional league should have up to the minute scores of games. Couldnt each team have someone at the rink post the scores from a laptop or something?? It really is not that complicated...

The capability is built into the system - it's just up to the teams to have a laptop and internet access available in the scorer's booth. Most of the rinks up here have the capability if they go out and spend < $100 on a wireless router and someone brings in an old laptop that can load up web pages.

Pro

Game 1: Raleigh Assault 3, SC Pirates 2 OT
Game 2: Raleigh Assault 4, SC Pirates 2

Game 1 ended on a one-timer from Street to Starrett about 10 seconds into OT.

Game 2 was tied until about 45 secs left in the game until a goal by Street from Downer gave the Assault the win . The last goal was a dave howard empty net goal making it 4-2.

Both games got pretty nasty and definitely isn't going to be a friendly rivalry.

Minor

Game 1: Little River Pirates 4, Apex Assault 3
Game 2: Apex Assault 2, Little River Pirates 0

The Assault Minor games were also really good games, with both teams showing they can compete in this league.

As in the Pro games the minor games were just as tight with both teams fighting for every puck possession.

The Assault fell to the Pirates 4-3 due to the shaky play by their goaltending in the 1st game.

With a strong comeback from their goaltender and phenomenal play from the rest of the team the Assault came back strong (2-0), and showed the Pirates why the Assault was going to be one of the teams to beat this season.

The Minor games with the Assault against the Pirates were just as fun to watch as the Pro games, with both teams showing that they can compete with any team this season.

The first game of the day was a testy one as both teams quickly showed that they do not like each other, and although the Minor Assault fell to the Pirates 4-3 due to the shaky play of their goaltender. The Assault controlled the majority game with the strong play from Capt. Chris Barry, Paul Roche, and Taylor Haberl.

After Assault defenseman Charlotte Nicholson igniting the offense after a huge check on one of the Pirates players; the Assault quickly jumped to a 1-0 lead in the second game and never looked back. With phenomenal play from goaltender Joseph Garcia and great play from the Assault on both ends of the rink, they showed the Pirated that they were going to be the team to beat this season.

The final score was 2-0 on an empty net goal.

I LIKE the fact that there are so many close games and a lot of splits. This season is looking to be a good one all around.

there is no checking in the league, so the only thing it should have ignited was a PP for the Pirates... did i miss something here or are the other divisions play different rules?

You're right there is no checking in the league, but the game was kinda intense. I may have over emphasized on the word "checked" it was more like the guy skated towards her to going for the puck and she stood her ground.

congrats to all the opening weekend winners.

Semi off topic to this thread: Are Charlotte Nicholson and Mandy Hankin of Harrisburg the only female PIHA players?

Phantom305

No. Kelsey Farson of Raleigh, and Michelle Vedder of Raleigh are other women that i know of.

you guys are all forgetting the most popular woman in the league, Ms. Lisa Giovanelli .... had 13 points in Pro last season for the FireAnts, gets some PP and SH time as well

She can definitely hold her own in Pro ...

I have also seen Haskins, from the Lunatics play minors a few times, she can keep up with the best of them, very fast skater.

really Bill?? thats awesome. I thought the only females played minors. Thats awesome that there are some in pro. Even moreso that she can hold her own.

So Raleigh has 3 girls on its rosters? that's pretty cool.

I'm curious to see how the new teams size up this season. With the exception of the Revolution it seems most teams had splits or very close games in the opening weekend.

In the Gateway division, as of now, we have one female: Katie Fisher of the Flying Monkeys. There may be some more in the near future...

Opening night in St. Louis was awesome. The Cobras pro team will be a force to reckon with. The Whalers will also be formidable as they were shorthanded this weekend without arguably their best two players: JP Beilsten and Ken Daleo.

The Minor Pro action was great as well. This year the notch has been raised in Minor as the talent level has spiked. The Whale swept the Minor games.

The AAA game came down to the final 5 seconds when Josh Buehrig scored to put the Whalers ahead for good.

I'm pretty sure that one of the teams in Colorado has a female goalie. I apologize that I have forgotten her name.

Michelle Vedder and Charlotte Nicholson of the Apex Assault both play for Team USA womens. Michelle is the starting goalie for USA and one of the minor backups on the Assault. I feel she could play Pro but with Levinson and Lambalzer already in the mix on the Assault, it's pretty stiff competition up there. Levinson was a star on the Outlawz and Lambalzer was the star tender for the Knights.

She may have played at State Wars in Junior if it's the same person.

Her name is Amber Bonne and she has played for the Littleton Fire in the past. I don't think she has played at the pro level, just minors. The Fire rosters are not yet posted so I'm not sure if she is playing this season or not.
