Does anyone know where nationals may be. I have heard Wheeling, West Virginia; Arlin Texas; Wichita Kansas or perhaps Macon, Georgia

I've hear a lot of places, none of which are those. Pittsburgh maybe?? San Jose?? I know that there's no official decision yet (at least according to item #6 in the letter from the ED on Sept 13), but that's what I've heard. Who knows...

I had not heard Pittsurgh. That would really surprise me given it is not a frozen tundra and is clearly land-bound, but they boast of Penguins and Pirates. San Jose would not surprise me although if we are going to California, I would have expected San Diego. On the other hand I'd really like to see it go to Arlin Texas. That place has a nice rink and its the only place you can get Alamo beer.

Texas sounds like a cool place to have nationals.

Wheeling, WV should not even be considered a town. Seriously, if were doing something in that are, we might as well just go to Pittsburgh, PA.

California is kinda overrated. However, it would be nice to play by the beach.

What about a place like Tampa, FL?

catch
09-28-2007, 06:31 PM
tampa is a nice place although, like California it is remote from much of the country. Wheeling W. Va. is a dump, but it can roll. Arlin texas is the place to go. I don't much care for texas, but if your going there its the place to be. Best golf course in the U.S. called Nine Rivers. I think its about that time each year they have the Heimleich County fair, which is a wild party. Rusty Shackleford grew up there as well, which is a point of interest.

I'd hate to go to Texas. Wouldn't be too bad in Tampa though. California is a long way from Vermont for me. Pittsburgh isn't too bad. How about Chicago or that place in Georgia.

I don't think that St. Louis is a great place for nationals. It worked well there last year, it was by far better than North Carolina. I think holding them in the same place is cheating everyone involved.

Williamsport, Pa would be a nice venue. Not only is Pickelner Arena one of the best facilities in Central Pennsylvania, it's also near such attractions as the Little League World Series Museum and Reptile Land.

The 2007 NCRHA Nationals were in St. Louis, MO. Wasn't the 2007 Frozen Four in St. Louis also?

The 2008 Frozen Four will be in Denver, Co.

I know Colorado was in the running for the 2008 State Wars. It sure would be neat if the NCRHA and Frozen Four tracked with each other.

One of the things Pittsburgh has going for it is that the facility in Harmar, PA is just 10 minutes from downtown and there are four hotels and multiple restaurants within walking distance from the rink. It is 2 minutes from the PA Turnpike and 25 minutes from the airport.

The rink, Bladerunners, is offering 3 rinks (two ice sheets to be converted to inline for the event), spacious ice-style locker rooms with showers and bathrooms, and 4 officials' rooms with showers and bathrooms. All three rinks have overhead scoreboards and air conditioning. There is also a full-service pro shop and above average concession area. Seating is 600 at two of the rinks and around 1000 for the center arena.

The Pens will be either be just finishing the regular season and/or just starting playoffs. The Pittsburgh minor league MLB team (Pirates) will be just starting their season at PNC Park, probably one of the best ballparks (with great food) in the country.

I will be going on tour along with the late Rodney Dangerfield. We will be playing the Fiji islands and later a full scale tour encompassing all of our favorite world leaders. A stop in Caracas for Hugo Chavez, a day night combo in Tehran, first for the Shiites and then for the large Buddhist sect. Then its on to Moscow to put in a show for Putin. Finally, its on to D.C. not to put on a show, because after all the city lacks any world leader, but rather attend a Bush press conference for the sheer comic relief. Thank you drive through.

Texas would be news to me. We dont have any facilities large enough to host a three-division championship. We have been trying to get a single division championship (B division) for several years now, but it seems the world likes to see B division teams at the same event as their counterpart first teams. It would be nice to break up the event so it is not as long or tough to staff and allow regions lacking in big facilites the opportunity to host a NCT. Our facilities are just as nice, just not as big.

Jim Helmbrecht

Ps. There is a large three rink ice facility between Dallas and Fort Worth, but it would be quite an undertaking to prepare it for roller. Great facility, however, it is not a feasible option right now.

They've decided on the location (did about a month ago) and are just finalizing the details in the contract with the facility, which is taking a bit of time because they're working on some pretty big stuff that will likely get the NCRHA some TV coverage on a sports network.

Not arlington, thats were the Cowboys play. I'm talking about Arlin. Its south of Dallas kind of between Houston and Dallas. Tom Landry Middle School is there. There is an exterminator service called Dale's Dead Bug. Dale's wife covers the tri-county weather. Cotton Hill's boy lives there, you may remeber Cotton killed fitty men back in WWII. Cotton is kin to one of the ZZ Top members, I think Dusty. Military base right there in Arlin, I'll tell you what. Has one of the best barbers in the land. The barber set the state record for touchdowns. I think his nickname was the billdozer. There is a propane business there called Stricklands, run by Buck. He has had a couple of heart attacks, but still finds time to mosey over to Hot Springs and place a few bets on the ponies and plays high stakes poker. I'll tell you what Catch will be starting to spend his non-hockey weekends in Hot Springs with Buck Strickland as of January 19th. Arlin is famous for having a spanish substitute teacher of the year who cannot speak spanish.

it didn't close there was a propane emergency and the entire place blew up. Chuck Mangionne barely escaped. Hank narrowly made it out and was found in the parking lot. Later Hank was accused and Buck Strickland even believed he did it, but it put him back into business so he looked the other way for the ole top. However, Buckley, who accidentally caused the explosion was killed, even though he returned as Buckley's angel. This caused Luann to mimick Sinead O'connor and show a pictue of Bobby as a straving Irish child limited to potatoes. Nevertheless, the place was rebuilt and is in business again although Stricklands and Fatherington Fuels are still in competition ffrom the propane aspect. So Megalomart is out. Maybe we could hold Nationals in Arkansas and take out a Wal-Mart.

I went back and looked at the announcement last year and found that St. Louis was announced on February 8th. I don't think we will know anytime soon. I would point out that anyone who travels regularly knows that flights and package deals are much cheaper months in advance. I guess since those scheduling this would only be spending other peoples money they aren't as concerned about imparting the knowledge on the people who may need to get the best deals, i.e., the players and many overpaid coaches. With all due respect to Fort Collins, the rink sits down wind from a pig farm and smells of fresh arouma. Why not just play in a field in Iowa.

This may not be enough to appease you all, but we hope to have the contract signed next week, and Rob is working on the announcement already.

Sorry that I have missed the past few nationals, but work and family commitments have prevented me from attending. Let me assure you that I did work very hard on the back end of the last several years. For instance, if anyone has any issues with the game schedule in the past, please email me. I did attend 2001 in Upland, 2002 in St. Louis, 2003 in Feasterville and 2004 in Anaheim.

Rob and I also plan (and I know you will say this is hogwash) to get the word out to several locations for the 2009 site, in Jan/Feb. In the past it was very easy (and I assume still could be) to just choose a building, letting them determine the rinktime cost of the event as well. We are trying to work more and more with visitors/sports bureaus of the cities/counties, similar to what Narch does. This creates more and more hoops to jump through, as an additional party is involved. Also working with these bureaus should bring more and more to the event, similar to the way someone said regarding Ft Collins in the past, with the local restaurants/local advertising/etc.

And Mike, I do get on here often, or at least read it!!! Just not on Christmas Day!

Thanks guys, and I do know that your posts are not out to insult the organization but to question it for it's betterment (if that's not a word, I apologize).

Ok I get on here every now and then and read these things. Ignorant comments like this just get to me. I know Brennan Edwards personally, and let me tell you, the guy is nothing but a class act who works extremely hard to keep this league running the way it does. His wife had a baby recently, and I don't know about you, but if I had a newborn at home and several other administrators who can run nationals effectively, I wouldn't think twice about skipping it to be with my family. People need to stop being so ignorant and just realize that the announcement will be made when it is finalized. I'm sure that Brennan wouldn't want to tell everyone the location is somewhere for sure and then have it fall out and take all the blame and hear all the comments from people who are looking for someone to get mad at. If there is this much whining about nationals now, I wouldn't even want to read what happens if that situation did come in to play.

All in all: Brennan, Rob (also a great guy), and the rest of the NCRHA staff, you're doing a great job. Keep it up and don't pay attention to people that have nothing better to do than shoot you guys down.

I don't understand why the week that Nationals will be held can't be announced, especially if they were close to being settled well over a month ago. We have several players on our team that have civil engineering testing during April, so they want to avoid a conflict if possible if we happen to make it. The sooner they know the week, the better chance they have of avoiding that conflict.
