Hi Folks,

There are times when I think that no one reads the Home Page articles, so this is an attempt to make sure that everyone knows about this story. I think it's important.

Dear IHC Readers,

Tonight I received the following e-mail from Martin Larson, the recreation supervisor at Camp Buehring in Kuwait. I hope that many of you will send something to Martin to help him create a little touch of home for the soldiers coming through Kuwait on their way to Iraq. I met some soldiers in Las Vegas when I lived there in 2004, and I met some Marines in Oceanside when I lived there in 2005. Most of them were class acts. May this war end soon, and our soldiers come back to home, hearth, safety and sports.

Sincerely,

To old friends, lost friends, and new friends,

For those who don?t know, I have spent the last two years working for the U.S. military in the country of Kuwait. I am the recreation supervisor on Camp Buehring in northern Kuwait, about 10 miles from the Iraq border. We are the major deployment camp for Iraq; every soldier that deploys to Iraq comes through this camp -- no matter if they are marines, sailors, airmen, or soldiers -- they all come through our camp. We see young, old, tall, short, skinny, fat; you name it, they come through here.

I am currently working on a project here to try and make their stay a little more like home, or at least give them a chance to take their minds off being away from home for at least a few minutes, but I need some help and I am hoping I can reach out to the community that I know and spent a great deal of time being with.

I am attempting to turn our Recreation Center into a sports-pub themed facility.

I need help in getting items that can help make the place look sporty, and make it look as though it has that sports-club atmosphere. Due to my limited resources, I have trouble getting items, so I was hoping that if anyone has old jerseys from any sports, or old equipment, sticks, gloves, bats, hats, posters, banners, or just anything sports-minded, it would help. I am purchasing a lot of things on my own, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Although the soldiers can only have N/A beer and we are in the middle of the desert, I think that if they are indoors and in a club atmosphere, it might take their minds off what is ahead of them for an hour or so.

Thanks for listening and if anyone can help, please send anything to the following address.

Again, thanks.
