I need some new skates. I play on a competitive AAA team and wants a good skate. Are the new tour carbons any good? I have heard good and bad. What is your opinion?

If you play AAA hockey, then you should be experienced enough to know a few things.

Weight is an important factor when choosing skates. The skate will function differently for someone who is 280 as opposed to 180.
Everyone has different feet, what is comfortable from one persons standpoint might be very uncomfortable from your standpoint.
Everyone skates differently. What works for one person might not work for another person.
Defensive skating is differen than offense skating. You will need to consider this. A good example... Before nike stopped making skates, they were quite ideal for me. I tried a pair of Tour skates and they made me skate considerably differently and actually slowed me down.I've been skating on Ice for over 25 years. I was a professional power skating instructor for 10 years. My advice to you is to not rely on someone else's opinions in an online forum, with regard as to how well a skate will enable your ability.

If you want to know about a skate, go to a pro shop and try them on. Ask if you can try them on the playing surface. Trying on a new skate on the pro-shops carpet will tell you little or nothing about the skate.

If your question was simply to ask about the durability of the skate, then portions of this reply are still a factor. For example, a very agressive skater weighing 280 might find that the skate fell apart on him then post a complaint claiming that the skates fall apart too easy. If someone is posting a complaint about a skate falling apart, they should include their weight, as well as their skating style. Then again, I've spoken with guys in conversation and they mention they play roller hockey. After being asked to play on teams, I ask what the skill level is. When they tell me they are "A" players, I take it with a grain of salt. I love seeing some of these "A"guys who can hardly skate, or the other guys who think they are great skaters, but if they could only see themselves in a mirror they'de laugh. It's ok though, I'm sure they say the same about me when it comes to puck handling... That's my weak spot. I'm not terrible, but far less skilled then a lot of guys that are out there who can't skate but can manuever the puck. ;)

Good luck with the new skates. Hope this helps you out.

best skate ive ever wornI just picked up a pair of Carbons the other day. They are considerably different than the Nike skate. The Nike fit perfect and was extremely comfortable when I put them on. The Tours fit but will need to be broken in. I have to get used to the non hi-low configuration that I've been skating on the past few years. Maybe if I put some 76's in the front they'll be better? I don't know.

By the way, I played with these skates last night for the first time and blew the bearings out. The micro bearings SUCK! Every set I've had were blown out withing 1 game. I might get through 1 more game with them but I'm not sure I want to find out during the middle of that game.

I have had my pair for three months and am very impressed with the skate. There are many advancements and new features on the skate like a new tongue that eliminates lace bite and a new toe cap that is a little bigger. The skate is also stiffer then most Tour's and is really holding up.
