Whats the deal with this weekends schedule? Our Glads team plays in Harrisburg on Saturday and again on Sunday if we win Saturday, and the site of that game is in the air. League finals aren't until the end of May why rush and force everything into one weekend? I understand there's rink time scheduled at Feasterville for next weekend but I thought this was a professional league.

Well, think out the timeline:

Divisional Championships - This weekend
Conference Champs - May 5-6
League Champs - Memorial Day weekend

While it's very easy for the NE and Mason-Dixon divisions to play each other May 5-6, remember that the Gateway and RM divisions need to fly to play each other May 5-6, and then those winners from each need to arrange travel for Memorial Day weekend.

Both of those rounds involve plane flights, hotels, etc, which is why I presume they're front-loading the divisional playoffs.

Harrisburg Lunatics vs the Gladiators Pro will be at the Susquehanna Sports Center in Lemoyne Pa. at 1pm. Early so that whoever wins can get some rest, and travel if necessary to Pittsburgh to play Sunday against the Bandits at 2pm, if they should win against Pottstown. If Pottstown wins, and Harrisburg wins the game for them will be at Harrisburg on Sunday night 6pm. If Pottstown wins and the Gladiators win, the game will be held in the Gladiators rink at a time those two teams will determine.

Harrisburg's Ragin Lunatic Minors will be playing as far as I am aware on Sunday in Pittsburgh against the Bandits minor team. Other minor league games times and locations have not yet been determined beyond the first round, but there are several weeks in which to complete them, including the weekend following the conference final if necessary. The reason for the rush of the Pros is so that a winner can be determined soon enough in the Eastern Conference, and airline and travel arrangements can be made in a decent amount of time and at a feasible cost for the league, which could be costly if waited too long to do so, understandably.

For the record, I vote to hold everything at one venue next season..lol, the logistics are a nightmare the way it stands. It sucks for Pittsburgh because they are a home team and have to be at the mercy of their local facility and the listen to the grumbling of the other teams that travel to them despite the fact that the bandits have earned their home rink advantage. It sucks for Richmond in the same manner in the minors because they too have earned that home rink status and they are so far from everyone else. Travel for them too is going to be gruelling. It sucks for Feasterville because their minors have to travel to Richmond and very possibly Pittsburgh at a later time. about 900 miles of travel possible. It sucks for Marple because they have to play in Harrisburg one day, Possibly Pittsburgh the next, meaning they will need to find accomodations as well.....in short notice no less. It sucks for Pottstown because they have the long haul to Pittsburgh Saturday, and then turn around and play either in Harrisburg or Marple the next, thats a lot of driving in two days, also having to get hotels I suppose.

for us in Harrisburg it is not quite as bad, because we play more central to many of these teams, and play at home Saturday, and maybe Sunday, or just a trip to Pittsburgh for Minors and maybe Pros Sunday. Not too inconvenient. But as a coach for both, could become a mess for me personally if I have to be in Pittsburgh Sunday for minors, and Harrisburg Sunday for pros.....cant hardly wait for that! I will be in Pittsburgh regardless as I have chosen to travel with the minor team in that case, but unfortunate to miss coaching a team I work with in the pros on Sunday night possibly. But this is how we the teams voted on it way back in July, we cannot blame the league for this blunder, nor can we fault teams who have earned the right of home rink advantage. Lets instead try to make the best of what is, and have some wonderful playoff games! I wish everyone luck across the league, and here is to hoping that players, coaches, and teams conduct themselves as classy athletes. Play hard, and travel safely!

welll last year is sucked driving all the way to to pittsburg to play against the Minutemen. to me a four hour trip to play a team thats a half hour away is pointless. Lunatics and York were in the same boat, so i guess i am a little suprised to hear you say that you'd want it back that way next season. I think that there should be more time to do the playoffs... Having both series in one weekend is nuts. That is a lot of travel for important games.

The only problem with the current system is that we should have built an additional week into the playoff, so that the divisional playoffs could have taken two weeks instead of one. This is still better then nuetral site.

Other than teams not being awarded home rink advantage, a neutral site is good but it shouldn't be a pre-determined neutral site, it should be a neutral site depending on where the 2 teams are from.

I think earing a home rink advantage is a huge part of having the regular season. I think the divisional playoff system is nice, except should not be all played in one weekend. The conference finals are a different story, they are being played in a neutral site... i think this is fair since the two divisions do not play each other over the course of the season. Hopefully next season that will change!!

GOod luck in the playoffs...

From the Glads Point of view we are traveling to Harrisburg on Saturday afternoon to play. We'll basically have to go there with our bags packed because it doesn't makes much sense to make the trip back to the Philly area and then go to Pittsburgh (if we beat the Tics and Pitt beats Pottstown). If we are to win Saturday, we then drive to Pittsburgh, try to find a hotel to catch a few hours sleep, play Pittsburgh Sunday afternoon and make a 5 hour drive home.

Pottstown has to play in Pittsburgh on Saturday. If the win they'd have to come back to either Harrisburg or all the way back to Philadelphia to play.

There's no time in the schedule for us to make travel arrangements for games we are being told about 4 days before they happen.

I think the system they currently have in place is 100% right with the division leader hosting all division games, thats just how it should be & the conference & finals at a predetermined location. Or atleast here in the East, heading down to Feasterville is not to bad to play the conference finals. Playing all the divisons rounds on one weekend just needs to be changed, so guys can plan ahead alittle better to where they might be traveling to, hotel, etc. I don't think the format should be changed just the time frame. Once again good luck to everybody this weekend.

I agree w/the last post. Doing the first 2 rounds in one weekend is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I have no problem w/the home rink advantage to the higher seeds but all that in one weekend seems very unprofessional to me.

You earned Home Rink you deserve to have it, all sports have the same set-up unless tornament format. Remote location is just as bad of an idea as playing two games in one weekend.
Just please space the season out a little better next year, we had a month off this year during reg. season. With that in mind there was definatly a way that we could have avoided this issue but no one thought this far ahead obviosly or we would not be having this conversation.

What's done is done lets just play already. Good Luck to all and Drive safe

I agree that the fifth place team should have filled in for Pottstown. Does not look good for the league when there is a forfeit in the play offs. What is the point of playing 32 games, busting your butt for 5 months and then not show up. Really curious to find out the reason.

Center_ice
04-28-2007, 11:01 PM
Maybe it would be good idea to call the league and ask when Pottstown bailed and why. Duh.

I don't think Mr. Yoder would purposely not call someone if he had the time to do so. Do any of you smart guys think for one minute that he would want this to happen when all it does is leave a black eye on the league and Pottstown.

I beleive that Feasterville would have been the next team to get in according to the standings, not the Inferno.

cus32
04-28-2007, 11:30 PM
Well Mr. Center Ice, thank you for calling me a smart guy, I'll take that as a compliment. I realized Feasterville would have been next, but I was referring to the fact that the Scottdale Inferno could have been there in 40 minutes (Feasterville, 5 hours?). Anyway, Charley absolutely would have or may have even tried to find a replacement. I don't know that info, but will talk to him on Sunday.

I don't know the situation that caused Pottstown to forfeit, but, they truly disgraced the league if they don't have a viable reason. This is the last thing that PIHA needs, especially with everyone that has an eye on the Pittsburgh Bandits due to their dominance this year.

This only happened one other time to my knowledge, and unfortunately it was the Inferno that bailed on the first round of playoffs, but they did give a 5 day notice to the league.

Anyway. Congrats to Johnny P. and the Conn. team for taking down a force in the Growl.

Center Ice you need to relax. No one was blaming the league, they were blaming Pottstown. I know Charlie hates that this happened, and if he knew about it he would have called the next team. We are trying to figure out why pottstown did it. Why would we call Charlie to talk about this. I am sure he is upset, and does not want to talk about this situation. That is what IHC is for, to find out information. No need to make the comments you made about the people who posted (Duh, and smart guys).

i see the Snipers won the first two games vs the Tornados in their divison final series 4-3 and 4-1 and it has the Snipers advancing to the Conference Finals according to the piha website. I thought the division finals were supposed to be a best of 5 series so the Snipers would need to win one more game or Tornados could win 3 in a row, unless that 3rd game was not entered on the piha website. anyone know about this??

In each of the four divisions, the top four teams will be eligible for the playoffs. Each division will hold their own two rounds of playoffs; the divisional semi-finals, and divisional finals. All divisional playoffs will be played at the home of the highest seed in each match up. During the division semi-finals, the first place team will host the fourth place team, while the second place team hosts the third place team. All divisional series will be best of three game series to be played during the week of April 23rd through April 29th. The Division Championship will be a five game series! Each division winner will win $1,000 in prize money.

I am new to this, But I did have the privilige of watching the Lunatics vs. Bandits games. I must say, they were amazing and I am glad I got to see them. I know that not many people were giving the Lunatics a chance because of not having Jay Mazer, Scott Miller, and Matt Matincheck. Their other guys really stepped it up and played amazing hockey. Bandits had a great season, and played a great two games against the Lunatics. I think a major part of the Lunatics success was due to goalie Jason Rohrbach. Having a shutout in game one, slumping a little in the 2nd, but still playing steller. Best of luck the rest of the way. Congrats!

well, jay welcomed a new addition to the roller hockey world on thursday morning, jacob ryan mazer. so, he came and played on saturday at home but understandably couldn't make the long trip to pittsburgh. baby, mom and dad are doing great. biff had a previous commitment that he couldn't get out of and matincheck had mandatory ot at work that he couldn't get out of. thanks to everyone giving us props. it was a real gut check by our team and everyone from top to bottom bought into what we were trying to do and it worked out. congrats on a great season to the bandits and the rest of the division for that matter. you had to work your tail off every night for a win against every team in our division. it made for some fun hockey.
