Inline hockey trainer/coach wanted in Otjiwarongo, Namibia.
The Scorpions Inline Hockey Club of Otjiwarongo, Namibia, is looking for a trainer/coach.
The club, which formed 11 years ago, now has 63 players, ranging in age from five to 30 years old. Most of the players are school students in the age groups of 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, 18U, Open, and Ladies.
There are five inline hockey clubs in Namibia: three in Windhoek, one in Swakopmund, and the Scorpions Inline Hockey Club - the only club without a qualified trainer at the moment. In the past, the Scorpions had four parents who trained the players in their spare time. While the Scorpions are proud of their player's achievements, the club is well aware of the benefits a qualified trainer can give a team.
According to club secretary Cindy Meiburg, "We are just north-west of South Africa. Our hockey club ranges in age from U8 up to Open and Ladies, with a couple of us older folks trying to start a masters team. We are desperately looking for a coach for our club. If you could help me contact someone who might be interested in coming to Africa for a few months, I would be most grateful. We are a very friendly, fun-loving community, and we can guarantee that we will do everything in our power to make the stay in Namibia a unique, unforgettable experience."
Meiburg said that the Scorpions' players are extremely motivated, dedicated and enjoy inline hockey.
"We are well aware that our players are in urgent need of a qualified trainer for an extended period of time to be able to keep up with the high standards set by the other clubs," Meiburg said.
Job Description
1.) Season: Beginning February until the end of November, preferably with the interest of a long-term commitment extending the contract of a single season. A three-months probation time, before the permanent work contract is concluded.
2.) Scope of Duties:
a.) Organization and handling of the complete training setup for all age groups: beginners, U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, U18, open , ladies and masters teams.
b.) Supporting the Club management in organizational and sport-technical duties.
c.) Supporting the Namibian Umbrella Organization (NIIHA) with their development programs and assisting the Namibian Inline National Team.
d.) Attendance at all tournaments is compulsory - approximately seven to 10 tournaments per season.
e.) Train voluntary interested players/parents coaches
f.) Working Days : Monday to Thursday for approximately four hours a day – occasionally Fridays – for a total of 16 to 20 hours per week
3.) Expectations:
a.) Minimum age of 25 years.
b.) Certificates of qualifications and experience as coach or active ice- or inline hockey player.
c.) Capability to work with and motivate our young players.
d.) Speak the English language.
e.) Willingness to work independently; be creative and responsible.
f.) Adaptability - arranging training sessions to fit in with school activities.
g.) Informative, helpful, frank and honest cooperation with the committee.
4.) Benefits:
a.) Gross Income: Eight thousand Namibian dollars (N$ 8,000.00) monthly in cash (the N$ has the same value as the South African Rand).
b.) Our club additionally provides monthly (total value of approximately N$ 6,000.00 per/month - not convertible into cash)
i.) A fully furnished flat, including water/electricity/laundry service
ii.) Motor vehicle for use to training sessions, tournaments, NIIHA meetings (private use to be discussed with committee - financed personally)
iii.) Telephone contribution - for local training/organizational purposes
iv.) Accommodation and fuel contribution to tournaments
v.) Return air ticket from country of origin for one person only
c.) Annual leave - two days per month - not to be taken during the school terms
Meiburg said that Otjiwarongo is a fairly small town situated in the Central/Northern part of Namibia.
"There is, unfortunately, not much to offer for adults in the line of cultural activities and sport," Meiburg said. "We do have (in reachable distances) the Etosha Game Park; various guest and hunting farms and tourist attractions. Our climate is extremely warm and dry, reaching up to 40 degrees Celsius in summer – November to January. Our rink is an open-air rink measuring 20 meters x 40 meters with a small clubhouse, washrooms and judges' tower, and is situated on the municipal sport grounds."
