There is no way you can leave Jim Tamburino off that list.
Additionally, Haggy prob wont be playing because he is going to get surgery so that he can have knees again. He played the entire season with no ligaments in his knee(s). Yes, that was plural.
Ask temple about Hagg before our game in the ASE, before the game hagg could hardly walk and he still register a goal and two assists.
So adding him to this team would be pointless.

i had tamborino on there and took him off. its a close call but i had to give it to hagg. there are about 4-6 guys in the league that could be thrown on there and it wouldnt make a difference. just went with what i thought were best. tamborino could easily be on the team though.
scotto not being on the team though is insane. 1st team all american all 3 years he has played. gotta put him on there.
deserving players have to be left off. just too few spots.

It's almost impossible to pick GPCIHL.
But I'll try. This is a team of 12, not necessarily the 12 best players. Players with complementary styles, more or less, although the best of the best make it either way.
F
Travis Fudge, LU
Kyle Gouge, LU
Tommy Paskvan, Wash U
Blake Propp, SCCC
Zach Stacy, UMSL
Mike Thiefault, LU
Dane Moody, Jim Dougherty, or Drew Vandas, Truman State (pick one, I'm not going to.)
I have a hard time leaving out Drew McCann, but I've already got two RH snipers.
D
Tommy Bruce, LU
Greg Thompson, LU
Andy Meade or Matt Johnson, SCCC (pick one, I'm not going to.)
Erick Cantrell, Brian Ganz, or Nick Syrigos, LU (pick one -- personally I'd take Ganz, but it's close.)
Adam Clarke or James Wetton, UMSL (once again, I'm not making a choice here. Pick one.)

I think Buffalo's goalie Latona should be on everyone's list. He made something like 55 saves in the triple OT semifinal. Pretty damn impressive.

Latona was considered for my list. I did watch that game and he played really well, but at other points throughout the year, he wasn't as impressive. However, he's definitely one of the best in the ECRHA.

GP D2 Regional All Stars
F: Dane Moody (Truman)
F: Zach Stacy (UMSL)
D: James Wetton (UMSL)
D: Adam Clarke (UMSL)
G: Toss up between Ames and Pecher
You can't name a D who is better than Wetton or Clarke on D.
Stacy didn't put up sick numbers like he did last year, but he has 4 or 5 gwg's and he takes a game over unlike anybody else. Moody or Paskvan is the other forward. I picked Moody because he is the most valuable to his team.

Paskvan plays D this year.
Hey jerk, I know Paskvan's playing D this year. But if I were putting together a GPCIHL all-star team, he'd be playing forward.
Nice catch, smart guy.
;)
Anyway, I knew I'd make at least one stupid omission....Brandon Marchand. That was a really dumb oversight.
Barnette is also hard to leave off the list.
My post was supposed to be a hypothetical regional all-star team like the ones that will be competing against other regions at NARCh....that's why I made some of the picks I did.
Thiefault, for example...I don't know what his stats are, but he is an exceptional defensive player, and the GPCIHL would be wise to pick him. From the forecheck all the way back, his gaps and angles are always perfect, and he doesn't let up. He's tough and can skate, too. And when he gets a scoring chance, he doesn't miss.
I value intelligence/"hockey sense" over a lot of other traits....
For example, there are lots of guys with as much raw offensive skill as Adam Clarke (at least to the extent that he actually shows it off...which is rarely....Clarkie isn't a gratuitous dangler). But there are precious few who play with as much intelligence and focus. Controlled fury.
A bad turnover, bad penalty, a stupid shot over the net and back up the boards on the other side (major pet peeve of mine!), or a defensive (mental) lapse -- basically, sloppy play in general -- is a good way to get blown out of a game (especially as talented as the competition will be in the region vs region event at NARCh). Against good competition, the margin for error is tiny.
That's why Thiefault, Clarke, and Propp are definitely on my GP all-star team.
Playing both ends of the floor with controlled aggression is key. You can only have so many pure snipers before you reach a point of diminishing returns.
(Of course, ideally you're able to coach up your snipers and danglers to be excellent all-around hockey players...)
In my humble opinion.

In the Great Plains Division 1, I would have to find a place for forward Joe Altnether from UMR. His team did not do very good this year, but he was always in the game and had quite a few "Stars".

Good call. He's a solid player.
I also wouldn't mind seeing Leandro Garcia Silva from MTSU surrounded by an all-star team. He'd probably fit in.

Three of the Regions have submitted their bid selections so far. ECRHA, WCRHL and MCRHL. SECRHL, GPCIHL and SCHL are all finalizing...so teams are still in the works. Expecting to hear from RMCRHA shortly as well.
All-Star Elites for the NCRHA Divison at NARCh will be announced and posted at Nationals at Matteson in the Sponsor Arena..and on the NCRHA site!
It's great to see the interest and it will be a great event at NARCh in July!

Not sure how these selections were made...there is some great talent missing on this list. Maybe they turned down the nominations?
http://www.secrhl.org/article.php?article_id=51630
Hmmm..."All-Stars" means the best players in the league, not just the best players off the best teams. INDIVIDUALLY some of the best talent in the SE is not on the top team in each division.

I am just saying that the true "stand out" players in the SE that would be traditional "all-star picks" were not selected. Not to discredit those who were chosen, but all-star picks should be based on individual accomplishment, not your team's accomplishments.
So, for example, Caudy and Strauch of SC are #1 and #2 in DI points and they aren't even on the all-star roster. Strauch was #1 in the league for game winning goals. I don't know these guys, so maybe they turned down the bids or didn't want to play for some other reason. I simply mentioned these names as examples of players that the other teams look out for. SC wasn't a powerhouse last year, so, like I said earlier, the all-star teams should be the best players, not the top/best players from the best teams (excluding the other teams).
Should Sidney Crosby not play in the NHL All-Star game because the Penguins suck? True all-stars lead the league in stats even when they are on a weak team.
And like a poster earlier said...how does someone who only played half the season beat out players who played the entire season? Again, no disrespect to whoever that was...don't remember the name. I am sure if you had played the entire season you would have still earned a spot on the roster.
Hey the Pens were good this year.

I think Strauch and Caudy were benefited by a weak schedule and the short bench of USC; they both rarely came off the ice. Also I realize its an allstar game, but Strauch has never backchecked in his life. I saw Caudy throw a water bottle at his own teammate on the bench. Perhaps people voted on more well rounded players. Their coach, however, was obviously snubbed during voting. Im not sure of his name, but he was able to piece together a respectable record with 6-7 skaters who constantly needed to be reminded of the team aspect of the game.
For the Pens being as young as they are they had a hell of a year. Plus I'm from Pittsburgh so I'm biased.

Of course wearing sunglasses and sandals on the bench while the league is trying to encourage the coaches to present themselves in a professional way probably didn't help their case either. Or perhaps they didn't want to travel to FL for the game?
Who was selected for the coach anyway? I didn't see that selection.

I don't know if this is true, but I heard a rumor that after seeing Strauch play ice hockey the coach of the Columbia Inferno is considering offering him a contract to play in the ECHL next year. He must of missed the non backchecking side of his game as claimed by hcarl.

I have heard this same rumor. The Columbia Inferno did not do well in attendance last year. The newspaper article I read said the Inferno plan to boost their attendance with several creative promotional nights next season. However, I believe the idea to sign Strauch for one game is merely copying an idea from the 1951 Detroit Tigers, discussed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_Gaedel

Politics...too many teams are run by players rather than a non-bias coach/manager/captain/etc. They select their friends for the A team and put the rest on the B team.
You should have seen it a few years ago when A and B teams from the same program would play each other. Then it became obvious that the talent was not divided properly.
