View Full Version : Poor reffing

I caught the Virginia-Philly game last night and I gotta say that the guys that were reffing that game were bad. I saw one guy from Philly with a bleeding lip that was resaultant of a high stick or high hands and no foul was called. I also saw a guy from Virginia split two defenders and was hooked by both and he got the gate for holding the stick. The only stick he was holding was his. He was stick handling the puck at the time. There were plays that were called back for offsides when in fact they were onsides. And it goes the other way with plays allowed to continue when there was no doubt that they were offsides. I saw one play where the ref that was on the line waved the play good and the back ref waved the play offsides and he was down in the corner face off circle. There were a couple of poor tripping calls etc. My question is, is there any type of training or certification for these refs to go through or are they just some bums from the house leagues? These guys were wearing big MLRH patches on their shoulders so I guess they have been approved by someone but jeez these guys wouldnt let them play. They kept the game choppy with all the stoppages. I dont think we had any sustained play for more then 1.5 mins. This was my first time to a mlrh game and I liked the contact and the hits. There were some big hits and a couple of good fights. When the game was allowed to be played there were some awsome end to end play with great passing and shooting. The intensity was great I just dont think the refs knew how to handle it. Anyways just my two cents. I enjoyed my first game out there and will come back but if the reffing dosent get better it will be hard to keep me there.

This sint a shock, MLRH has always had ref questions and or problems.

hey Stickittotheman i just wanna agree with you 100% i was the player that got Sticked in the mouth last night in that game. When it happend they said they never seen it but they asked if i was alright which made no sense to me. Also i wanna agree with you that both of those Refs had no clue what they were talking about they have no clue about the rules it just seems like they are out there just to collect a little check. I Also wanna touch base on that the Coach for Virgina has no Class what so ever in coaching, Yea we had 7 guys and yes most of these guys never played this high level and this coach knew it. the score was 9-3 and i was still in the box serving my 5 min major and 10 min misconduct and he kelp tellin his players to keep it up and keep scoring. they game was def getting out of reach and his team didnt give up they kelp going down and scoring and he keep yelling at them to do it. im sorry but i play of the NJ Werewolves and we have dominated teams and not once have we ever went after a team like that. pass the puck around work on things not go after a team that u know you can kill it might sound like a b****ing but it was rediculous.

As somewhat of a spokesperson for the Philadlephia Sting, I will make a comment on the reffing. I dont know what anyone really expects from the officiating whether it is PIHA or MLRH. We just dont have that type of talent officiating these days. The NHL guys make plenty of mistakes and destroy games at times this season. I guess I go into these games not expecting a lot of calls or just expecting perfection. I have played enough games in the past 7 years to realize the refs don't really decide games. Did the Sting deserve to lose last night? The way we played, absolutely. I came with a short roster of limited experience players and promptly got romped. The Coach didnt show us any respect and you know what, I could care less. My only problem was when he came over and tried to intimidate a younger teammate of mine whom he apparently knew. Thats ridiculous...Let the VA fans get their jollies off of my short roster and knowing that truly was the highlight of their night ( that and them flossing their one tooth left in their mouth, unfair comment, strike it from the record counselor). I'll make sure that when they do make their trip up to Philly, they will realize that they got a gift from my team last night. Merry Christmas boys...

this is the reason nobody wants to play in MLRH... who wants to drive to the middle of nowhere and play an awful team and probably get hurt in the process? play PIHA the refs may not be the best, but they are hands down better then MLRH

I would love to play piha and not pay upwards around 300 to 500 dollars for roller hockey. Am I hurting right now from Saturday night? Well, I would be lying to you if I said I am completely healthy after I played 42 minutes of a 48 minute contact game. I am not sure if its ray or bill, 89, but regardless, I would play PIHA if I had the time and the right team to play for. No need to go through my laundry list of past teams I have played for, but for one reason or another, I am running the Sting in MLRH. I am not complaining about it either. I think ultimately, everyone involved would like to see one big league come out of the MLRH vs PIHA competition. I just believe that contact should be allowed along the boards just as in NARCH and TORHS for PIHA. Oh, lest anyone think otherwise, I can certainly keep up with most of the guys in the PIHA pro league contrary to what others may think ( no need to name names here or call anyone out that is worth my time). I swore I wouldn't come back here on IHC, but like the mafia, they pull me back in....

it's bill... ray has better things to do with his life then post on here, unlike me :D, it seems that with the rule changes for PIHA this year so far they are letting the body play go on the boards...

i have to remark on this. I believe they are letting SOME body play go on the boards, but it isn't consistent. One play our man get stood up trying to go around a guy, and gets put into the boards on what i would consider a total interference call, then going the other way, our guy edges the guy into the boards while both going for the puck, and gets a call.

I think the refs have been doing a decent job. We all can agree that it's not the easiest job in the world, ask anyone who's done it. I know that when i work a game, i work with different guys, i've reffed from Las Vegas to Amsterdam, and every ref sees the game a different way. It's something you have to live with, every game you go into. The better teams learn how to skate thru a penalty, and put the puck in the net, not stop and yap with the ref, while the other team takes the puck up the rink.

i'm not coming out to play attorney for the mlrh again but plaugher come on man, you told me that it was a helmet that caught you in the mouth, not a stick. otherwise the game was a blow out yes, but the wings have been on the receiving end of some major blowouts in the past. not like it's foreign territory there. and in the coaches defense he was playing the third line on 3-1 shifts and still scoring. and dave, i respect the hell out of you for bringing your team down and playing all the way through.

hey man i just wanna say that it was a stick and i have video to prove it and 3 other peple to back me up its no big deal not worth fighting over. but the whole coach playing his other guys and running up the score the way they did was stupid and the coach had no class. u dont run the score up like that after u have 8 goal lead and u know your ging to win. yes they might have won but we also had 6 guys playing and 4 of those guys neve played at this level. our goalie neve rplayed a pro game in his life and i respect him for commin out if we had our # 1 goalie in Jon Dawe and our other players yea it would have beena great game but come on man have some class and not run up the score like like it was a football score not a roller hockey score. i have no problem with the players on the Wings at all im cool wiht all of them but the coach is a different story he has no class and knows nothing about hockey but running the score up and trying to humiliate a team.

I don't play in the MLRH, I play in PIHA. I know there are differences between how the refs call games and how well organized the games are. I did not see the game you are talking about, but this is supposed to be PRO level. I don't think people should be upset over teams continueing to push to score goals. I recall the Sabres beating up on the Flyers something like 9-0 early in the season, and there was no argueing about still trying to score goals. I know comparing NHL to MLRH is a stretch, but I think it is pointless to be so upset over something like this, instead keep that anger in and take it out on them when they play you next. I am not trying to piss anyone off, I just think that at this level, the complaining needs to stop.

you are absolutely correct. People need to stop complaining about things and just play the game. Every sport has problems with officals no matter what level it is. If any of you have reffed before it is not easy. There is alot to watch especially in hockey. A for running up the score, that is a tough arguement either way. But just try and use anger and use to play better the next time. This is something that is hard to do, so I can uderstand both sides of this arguement.

TJ, why are you playing in that brutal league? And second when they come up next time give all of us a call so we can beat them 19-1 like we did 2 years ago, i agree with you that the Wings coach has no class because i remember playing for the Philly Rage and when we were winning the game the coach was yelling at his guys to take us out blah blah blah, let the MLRHers have their fun, don't hurt yourself for PIHA this season playing in that garbage
