I was going to just put this in another thread, but i'm feeling saucy and it's probably deserving, so...

What to people think about PIHA having some sort of pre-season exhibition schedule, whether it be a mandatory number of games, say 4, against a couple of the closer teams, or a weekend festival with a bunch of teams... it would help to get the season going, where as right now it seems like we're all just jumping into the deep end... It would be awesome to have a weekend with about 8-10 teams, everyone plays a round-robin, and then play it out... i mean 6-8 games in a weekend isn't really that much with 12 minute halves PIHA style... it would be great for teams to get some time together, good for building excitement, and definately helpful to get an idea of where everyone stands, but not have it count against you... Tournament series are over in july/august, im sure it could be fit somewhere in sept/oct/nov... Now you're saying, well everyone wouldn't be able to do a tourney on the same weekend...What if you had an Eastern conference tourney in Philly, Midwest tourney in St. Louis, and tourneys in Colorado and Canada... and if you couldn't put your team in, you would be required to schedule 4 games on your own with another team... Just imagine the night activities going on if you had 8 PIHA teams in the same place at the same time... who knows where havelocks sandal might end up!

Basically, i think it would be a good way for the league to get the season going, other than how it is now where there is nothing besides a fake draft and a couple teams who have tried to put something together on their own... it seems like there is this long dead period of time and all we can do is try to think of something new to talk about...

Next weekend in St. Louis is the Tour Christmas Cup which is a big tourney featuring many youth and adult teams of all levels.

This isn't final and may or may not happen, but we are working on getting two PIHA exhibition games during the championships on Sunday in-between the kids games.

It seems like a good idea to generate interest in the league and the get the teams out there.

I definitely would agree with that. Some type of exhibition tournament would definitely be a good tune up for each team, and I think would make for some more intense games during the regular season since each team would have an idea of what everyone else is bringing to the table. If we could get this to happen next year, it would definitely be an improvement to PIHA.

We have already discussed this for next year in our division. I dont htink anything pre-season should be mandatory, but highly encouraged. Pre-season tournament series that work as fund raisers.

Havelock's Sandal... you had me rolling on that one

I just think if you don't make it mandatory, that teams might not make an effort to travel to a tournament, but if you give them the option of not going and scheduling some exhibition games, everyone besides richmond has a team right next door to them, and it wouldn't be too much work to at least play say 4 games in a day or a weekend...

The other thing about having a pre-season exhibition tourney is that it would really be a great way for potential sponsors to come and see what kind of product the league really has on the rink, and it would also be nice for any fans to be able to be able to see some teams that they might not normally see because we don't schedule between divisions...

Im glad the league is working on something...

The Minutemen, Growl and Grizzlies did a great job hosting their tourneys but the league needs to do them. I think if the date is set early, then players can adjust their schedules. It would be great for the league. I Know at the meeting this year it has been talked about, hopefully it will be done. Best of luck to all teams.

I think now that we have division leadership, this should be a topic for each division to discuss at their individual meetings. The growing cost of the league would taken a chunk out of if each team could raise a bit of money with a pre-season tournament series event. We need to start early so they arnt every other week and players get burned out from playing to many to fast.
