i was thinking of going to tryout for the Growl and i have a few questions:

1) do the pro teams have tryouts for the minors and just assign some players to their minors squad? or does each minors team have their own tryouts?
2) how many players and goalies usually show up for these tryouts?
3) what teams have already announced tryouts?

Phantoms, Minutemen, Grizzlies (if they get into the league), and the Lunatics are the only teams I know of that have announced dates.

Tryouts for the Lunatics is for both Pro and Minor squads.

It's amazing what a team can accomplish when no one cares who gets the credit.

The tryout schedule for the Growl has not been decided yet.

Last year, we assigned all tryout players to the minors. However, a number of minor players played pro games during the season, which is always expected when pro players are injured or otherwise cannot play in games.

Typically, all tryout players are always assigned to minors and it's up to GM/coach discretion as to who plays up. I will say that this year, I'm fairly certain there will be a number of spots up for grabs for up and coming players.

Regarding how many players show, that's not something that can be defined. Sometimes it's little; sometimes it's a lot. However, if you're good, you should stand out among all, right? =)

Good luck and please do come to tryouts. You don't know until you try.

so how does travelling work? say i had an away game, would i just go to the home arena and take a team bus to the away arena?

Depends on the travel - most teams work out rides (or a bus) to the games if they're a good distance. Players usually drive themselves if the trip is < 90 mins.

The Growl announced its first tryout date today:

Saturday, September 23rd at Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, NJ - 2:30pm

Please note that this is the 1st time in 3 years that the Growl is holding an open tryout with spots avialble on our pro team. We will also be filling positions for our minor league squad from this tryout. Cost will be $40 and $25 for all returning minor leaguers.

These numbers are extremely inaccurate. We took over 75% of the players from last years tryouts and was in fact the reason we decided to have two squads. I will research it and post accurate numbers. Not slamming ya Robby, just want the public to know that they have a good shot if they come to tryouts. Thanks for spreading the word.
