FIRS WORLDS
After day one Team Canada Men and Women are undefeated.
The Canadian Women's team is 2-0 after two days of competition, beating Great Britain 7-2 on Monday and Mexico 9-0 on Tuesday.
On Monday vs Great Britain Coley Dosser (Binbrook,ON) let the tem with 2 goals while Jackie Jarrel (Corbyville,ON), Kathy Devereaux (Seaforth,ON), Julia Colizza (Sault Ste. Marie), Cherie Piper (Toronto,ON), and Samatha Shirley (Mississauga,ON) also scored. Megahn Agosta (Ruthven,ON), Jarrel, Piper and Teresa Marchese (Brampton,ON) all had an assist while Devereaux chipped in with two.
On Tuesday Cherie Piper (Toronto,ON) scored a hat trick, Shirley (Mississauga,ON) had two, Agosta (Ruthven,ON), Doser (Binbrook,ON), Brooke Ludolph (Chatham, ON) and Colizza (Sault Ste Marie,ON) all scored one each. This was Ludolphs first international goal and has turned heads at the World tournament as one of the youngest players playing at this level. Devereaux (Seaforth,ON) had two assists, Piper (Toronto,ON), Jarrel Corbyville,ON), Agosta (Ruthven,ON) and Ludolph (Chatham, ON) all chipped in with one assist.
The Women play next on Wednesday 7:00PM against the strong Czech team, to end the round robin play. The Canadian Women get an automatic bye to the semi-finals as the 2005 World Championship.
The Men's National Team started with 5-3 win over France on Monday and play Tuesday night against the very strong Czech Republic (8:30PM). Raphi Protopapas (Chatham, ON) started the scoring for Canada with an assist from Shawn Mather (Tilbury, ON). Paul Szczechura (Brantford,ON) and Dave Hammond (Toronto,ON) teamed up for the second goal, then Hammond and Chad Seibel (Red Deer, AB) got Canada's 3rd goal and then Jay Allan (Toronto,ON) scored a beautiful short-handed, unassisted goal to put Canada up by one and then Mather and Seibel scored an insurance marker late in the second half to give Canada their first win.
