Here is a format we are trying up in Maine this summer. I have high hopes:
SUMMER ROLLER HOCKEY!
Thursday nights, 7:00-8:00, June-August
Outside, in an empty tennis court (there is a playground adjacent to it if you want to bring family).
Cost: free!
Looking for 12 players who want to have fun, play hard, play fair, and go home in one piece.
Combined-team 3 v 3 format. Four 3-man teams will be chosen randomly the first night and they?ll stay together all season (e.g. A, B, C and D). One 3-man team plus another 3-man team combine to play another combined team, with substituting on the fly (e.g., A+B plays C+D). The next week, A+C play B+D; in week three, A+D play B+C; and so on. (The combined format will hopefully work well for the summer because it benefits the players/teams that can consistently field a large team while still allowing for vacations, etc.)
Each week both 3-man teams on the winning combined team get a point toward the coveted League Championship! Which means absolutely nothing!
Mini-goals, no goalies. Balls not pucks. Fresh not frozen.
We are relying on natural light so please try to be ready to play at 7. As soon as both combined teams have at least 2 players we?ll get started with 2v2.
Saturday August 26th ? Iron Man (non-combined) 3v3 round-robin tourney and family BYOE BBQ tail-gate 9-1:00. Please mark your calendar because there are no replacements/subs/combined teams for the Iron Man tourney!
