The National Junior Program and Festival showcases some of inline hockey?s top talent, and it will continue to grow and be a leader in the sport because players know it is an opportunity to compete at a high level. Players are provided flights, transportation, meals, housing, and equipment - this sets this program apart from others.

The 2005 National Junior Festival brought out 48 of the United States top 15-18 yr old inline hockey players as well as fourteen of Alberta, Canada?s elite inline hockey players. The fifth year of the program proved to be the best yet. Players arrived in Washington D.C. and were greeted at the airport by USA Hockey InLine staff and taken by charter bus to the American University in Washington DC. At check-in, players received their new M-1 Mission gloves and Mission hockey pants provided by the Junior Programs presenting sponsor, Mission Hockey, as well as a new set of Labeda wheels. The players were overwhelmed - all this and they still hadn?t put on their skates yet! After a quick player meeting on the program rules and format, it was off to the rink for games at the Capital Clubhouse in Waldorf, MD. Friday?s games were exciting and fast paced. Five teams of players representing their regions/province took to the surface. Teams East, West, Midwest, and South showcased the USA?s best talent, and Hockey Alberta represented the province of Alberta, Canada. Following the action on Friday, players and parents were treated to a Barbeque at American University. After the BBQ, players were taken by charter bus over to Georgetown, for a few hours to unwind and relax from the day's busy schedule. Then it was back to the dorms for some much needed rest for another big day of hockey on Saturday.

Saturday, the games resumed and the action picked up. Players knew that not only were they representing their regions, but four players from this program would receive a tryout spot at the IIHF Mens Team Selection Camp. Selected after the Festival to the IIHF Tryout Camp were William Sweatt, James Mello, Chris Koutnik, and Sean Connolly.

Following the Saturday games, the players toured the Washington DC Memorials.

Sunday featured the Gold and Bronze Medal games. The Bronze Medal game had Hockey Alberta defeating the East squad for their 1st ever Festival Medal, while the Gold Medal had the South upending the Team Midwest.

The success of the National Junior Program and Festival is due in large part to its sponsors such as Mission Hockey who has been on board since the 1st Festival! We thank them and your continued involvement in this unique program. Check out this year?s sites and dates for your chance to be a part of the action!
