Major League Roller Hockey AAA National Championship

Marple Gladiators vs. Colorado Crush

Alexandria, VA- Major League Roller Hockey's National AAA Championship game will feature the Colorado Crush (14-0) and the Marple Gladiators (16-1) in the season's most eagerly anticipated matchup. The game will be played Saturday evening, August 4 at the Marple Sports Arena. The Marple Arena is in suburban Philadelphia. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.

In making the announcement, Bill Raue, MLRH President said, "MLRH AAA is the most exciting roller hockey played in North America and has attracted many thousands of paying fans over the 2001 season. We are thrilled to bring the Championship game to the Philadelphia area. Philly has a great roller hockey tradition and these are the best teams in America. It should be a great show."

MLRH AAA teams play full contact roller hockey and fighting is allowed. The AAA concept was created to take advantage of the many dedicated roller hockey facilities that have opened since the demise of the pro game in 1999. Teams play a 14-game schedule, often attracting several hundred paying fans. AAA teams are permitted to roster two professionals.

The Crush, who play at the JBS Sports Center in Greeley, Colorado went unbeaten in the Great Heartland Division while the Gladiators proved to be the East's top team, winning the Liberty Division. Marple avenged their only loss of the season to the New Jersey Scorpions with a 14-4 win over New Jersey in the Eastern Conference Championship game.

C. J. Yoder, Mike Jacobs, Al Washco and Ed Smith lead the potent Gladiator attack. Captain Derek Thede, Doug Steuber, Mike Vickerman, Kelsey Quigg and Aaron Moss have proved to be the big guns for the explosive Colorado team. Many of the Crush players were members of the 2000 National Championship AAA team when they skated for the Rocky Mountain Wolverines. The Wolverines defeated the Hampton Roads Destroyers in the 2000 Championship game at the Amherst Pepsi Center in Suburban Buffalo.
