The Mid Atlantic Roller Hockey Association is getting larger each week, and we are continuing to look for more competition. After posting about several tournaments in the event listing section of the forums, I wanted to take time to explain the association and how it works.
The organization is free to join and ranks member teams (Adult teams) through August. The top several teams make it to the year end championship.
How are teams ranked? MARHA tournaments are a major part of the rankings and each team also reports scores from league play, (in whatever league the team is already in), tournament play, and exhibition play. Teams don't have to participate in any MARHA tourneys to be ranked, however all must participate in one to be considered for the year end championship.
Our tournaments are cheaper to play in than those of other organizations, mainly because we are not looking to make a profit, but rather looking to grow the sport. While regional qualifiers to the major tournaments can cost upwards of $500 per team, our tournaments are reasonably priced at usually under $150 per team. Additionally, travel is cut down because each team is able and encouraged to host its own MARHA tournaments (upon association approval).
Beyond that, with all games counting towards rankings rather than just tourney games, a team's hard work and effort during their regular season and exhibition play are not thrown out, but rather strongly considered.
Teams from affiliate leagues, (it is free to become one), recieve even more credit for league play throughout the year. Affiliate leagues range from adult house leagues to elite travel leagues. The league does no work other than reporting scores to the association, and in turn, the league gets to spread the word to more players via our website.
Currently, the MARHA extends as far east as Lancaster PA, as far west as Pittsburgh PA, and as far south as Winchester VA. We are looking for teams throughout all of the Mid Atlantic region as well as New York and New England.
