not that this is relevant to anybody else, but...

blew all the christmas money on other hockey stuff, then my last stick broke...have fallen into possession of old (very old - like '75 or so) set of wooden sticks, Northland, "pattern #1437, Bobby Orr."

The blades are just barely, maybe a 32nd of an inch curvature...darn near straight.

These sticks were made for the old Central League El Paso Raiders team that lasted 6 months, then moved to South Dakota.

These are cool, once you get used to the weight...I'm now to the point of familiarity that I want to send one to Easton, and see if they'll make me a composit one-piece exactly to the specs of the wooden one...

Anybody else out there still using wood? Anybody using a straight blade?

Hi Danny,

Those old sticks sound pretty cool. 1975, eh? Back when you were just a 40-year-old whippersnapper? /wtimages/icons/wink.gif

Hi Dan,

Is the stick that your talking about the one that you used in the friday Jan 06, in the game? I was going to ask you about it because I saw that it was all wooden and not like a new one. I can't wait till monday to go and take a look at the '75 stick... wow I was one year old when that stick was on the market

Yeah, George, I was playing with it on Friday...curiously enough, my backhand passes are much more accurate, while my forehand shots and passes sometimes float askew, probably owing to the lack of curve. With no curve to cup and "grip" the puck, the puck slips off the more "open" face of the blade at the angle of contact I am used to applying on a pass/shot...see you Sunday(?) or Wednesday, George...

Yeah, I remember one of your passes that was way in front of our player and you just said something like sorry or something like that.
I'll try to be there tomorrow, if not, then I will be there Monday!!

Easton or any of the companies will not make bespoke comopsite sticks... as they are made in moulds and these are very expensive. Even pro players I think just get a catalogue of blade patterns to choose.

A few guys who like the wood have had wood blades fused to composite sticks. I remember a guy had a Mission M1 that was Rafalski pro stock that looked like an ordinary M1 until it broke and he found it was wood blade fused on.

If you want some making up I think Mission, Sherwood or Christian may be the best comanies to try. Hope that helps.

in the vein of continued irrelevance, the wooden stick did pretty good tonight...3 assists and a goal for four points in a 6-3 last period win..."good job" to all the Clowns in the Masters-Novice Division of the N-THL tonight, guys...this league is what rec hockey should be...do your best, try to improve every time out, let the pucks fall where they may...more hockey for everybody...

It's a privilege to be a Clown, fellahs...

...as noted above, they're all a bunch of Clowns anyway...but they're my Clowns, so we're all in the volkswagen together...and don't that aptly describe, if somehat analagously, the way a rec hockey team oughtta be?

Yes, that is true, I'm one of those Clowns... but trust me, the whole rec division in which we play is a Circus... I think Dan can explain all of you better what I mean!!! :)

Aye, que George!

Jorge is alluding to our team names in the NTHL Masters-Novice Division as Clowns, Acrobats, Jugglers, and Fire Eaters...didn't we have some discussion on team names at one point somewhere on this message board?
