Hi Folks,

I can't remember ever seeing the Message Board as quiet as I'm seeing it now. Let me know if there's anything I can do to liven things up. What would you like to see covered? What questions would you like to have answered? I'll do the best I can.

Sincerely,

Can't we just get a breather in here? It all starts up again next month!

Uh, Richard, good buddy, if things were all even, then there would be exactly the same number of postings and viewings each hour, day, week, month, etc...since this medium is a real thing in the real world, there is variable ebb and flow...odds are, somewhere over the course of years, there might even be a day where nobody comes out to play at all...while that would certainly be one extreme end of the bell graph, there is bound to be a day/week or two where things are slack...Nancy notes correctly that this is the "in between" fortnight where we are getting ready to start the "hockey new year," eh?

I can tell you, as all my summer teams got knocked out of our local playoffs, I have personally gone into "hang out and do as little as possible" mode for a few days...

The boys (and girls) will be back...

We note in USA Hockey's quality control questionnaire over their recent youth national championships, the question whether it would be viewed as a positive thing to host the USAHIL youth nationals "in conjunction with one or more sanctioning partners.."

Interesting, eh?

I remember after the National event not wanting to see the inside of a rink for weeks! Major tired of rink food, dry eyes and in reality some of the kids and their parents. This break gave us time to prep for the beginning of school but I have to tell you the kid never really wanted the break. Pickup games were still going on and he was right there.

We all take breaks from things and this is that time of year were the start of the pro season and fall is coming. I think there are some people out there that are claring their heads and enjoying the end of summer.

Hi Danny,

Don't get me wrong -- everyone deserves a break, even from their passion. There have been times I've been so sick of watching inline hockey games (and not playing) that I couldn't stand it. I just hate to see the MB so quiet. (On the other hand, it's a nice break from constantly having to monitor it!) /wtimages/icons/wink.gif

Keep us posted on how the USAHIL "sanctioning partners" things go...

Hey John,

I hear ya on enjoying the summer. I went out to the beach today and built one of the strangest "sand castles" you've ever seen. It had a couple of Easter Island (Rapa Nui) heads, a mountain range with trees, a four-sided pyramid, some caverns, etc. Bizarre. And I wasn't even drinking. (Well, not much, anyway.) /wtimages/icons/cool.gif

NLane I agree with you 100%. Sometimes we have to get away from the rink and hockey to refocus. Our club has been going strong since late September getting ready for Nationals. We did lots of traveling this year. From the East Coast to the West Coast. To Florida twice this year. The Summer has been very long with us doing 6 out of the 7 Major Nationals. From fathers day weekend we've done the 2Hot4Ice Nationals, USAR's, TORHS, NARCH, USA Inline and then somee did State Wars. I was on the road for roller for about 6 weeks straight. I'm not complaining because the guys did very well this summer and I acomplished what I set out to do which was to provide the guys with something to do and have fun doing it without getting into trouble. They learned alot this summer as did I. Many of the guys have only done one Nationals in the past 3 years. We made up for it this year. They traveled to play and with the support of their parents and their willingness to travel or take turns being the adults at the events they helped make this a Summer our boys will remember. Not too often a youngster can say that he went from South Carolina to North Carolina, Detroit Michigan, Esteron Florida, Voorhees New Jersey and then to Chicago in all of 6 weeks. A few of our boys can say that they have visited Reno Nevada, California and Disney Florida as well as that list above this year. So taking a few weeks off before school starts up for them to get ready for school and for me to recoup from all of that flying is good!
Tell you what it's only been about 4 days since I got home and It's 4 days too long already. I'm going thru withdrawl!
By the way we have to get together for next year to get more teams out from VA. to State Wars. It was nice to see 4 teams participate this year but I know that there are more good players in all ages there that could have participated but wanted to see how this year went. A few of your boys were there. Barry, Reed and Boss from what I remember back in the VooDoo Years.
Enjoy the rest of your Summer! One more week before I start up again with our Club and I'm looking forward to it!

Richard,

That all depends on what you are drinking and how much or not enough.
